AIRPLANES WITH SPEED BRAKE LEVER POSITION SENSOR; Install the mounting bracket for the adjustable control rod on the forward drum (Fig. 401).

AIRPLANES WITH SPEED BRAKE LEVER POSITION SENSOR; Connect the adjustable control control rod to the rod mounting bracket.

Adjust the speed brake lever:

 (a)  
Move the speed brake lever to the DOWN position.

 1)  Make sure the lever latch is in the detent on the control stand.

 (b)  
Make sure you can easily install the rig pin S/B-1 in the forward quadrant.

 (c)  
Adjust the speed brake lever if you cannot easily install the rig pin: 1) Remove the access panel from the left side of the control


 stand forward and below the stabilizer trim wheel. 2) Disconnect the top end of the lower control rod from the
 idler link. 3) Install the rig pin S/B-1. 4) Loosen the checknut and adjust the rod end until you can
 install the bolt. 5) Install the rod end with the bolt, washers and nut. 6) Make sure you can see the threads of the rod end through
 the inspection hole in the lower control rod. 7) Install the access panel on the control stand.

 (6)  
Connect the speed brake actuator to the lever brake:

 (a)  
Manually turn the lever brake forward until the internal stop touches.

 (b)  
Apply 28V DC to pins 1 and 7 on the actuator to extend the actuator.

 (c)  
Adjust the rod end of the actuator:
 1) Loosen the checknut on the rod end.

 

 NOTE:____Use pin 1 as the ground. The pins on the actuator have numbers.

 2)  Adjust the rod end until you can install the bolt through the lever brake and the actuator.
 NOTE: To make the alignment easier, you can loosen the
____ lever brake a distance equal to one-half turn of the actuator rod end.
 3)  Install the bolt that attaches the actuator to the lever
 brake. 4) Tighten the checknut on the rod end hand tight. 5) Remove the bolt that attaches the actuator to the lever
 brake. 6) Loosen the checknut on the actuator rod end. 7) Turn the rod end in one full turn. 8) Tighten the checknut and bend the tabs on the lockwasher.
 (d)  
Manually turn the lever brake until it aligns with the rod end on the actuator.

 (e)  
Install the bolt, washer and nut that attach the rod end of the actuator to the lever brake.

 (f)  
Remove the rig pin S/B-1.

 (g)  
Apply 28V DC to pins 1 and 3 on the actuator to retract the actuator.

 (7)  
Manually move the speed brake lever through the full travel to make sure it moves freely.

Connect the speed brake control cables to the forward drum (Fig. 402):

 (a)  
Install the rig pin S/B-1 in the forward drum.

 (b)  
Install the rig pin S/B-2 in the speed brake input quadrant (Fig. 403).

 (c)  
Attach the cables and the cable retainers to the quadrant.

 (d)  
Connect the cables at the turnbuckles.

 (e)  
Tighten the cables at the turnbuckles to the tension shown in Fig. 402.

 (f)  
Remove the rig pins S/B-1 and S/B-2.

 (g)  
Move the speed brake lever through a full cycle.

 (h)  
Make sure you can install the rig pins S/B-1 and S/B-2.

 (i)  
Make sure the tension in the cables is in the limits shown in Fig. 402.

 (j)  
Make sure the tension in the two cables is approximately the same.

 (k)  
Remove the rig pins S/B-1 and S/B-2.
