1. General_______
A. There are two tasks in this procedure. There is a task for the removal and a task for the installation of the speed brake forward drum and the lever brake.

Make sure the systems A and B hydraulic power is off (Ref 27-62-00/201).

Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
(a)
P6-2 Panel
1) AUTO SPEED BRAKE
(3)
Move the speed brake lever to the DOWN position.
(4)
Open the forward access door.

Remove the left forward access panel in the nose wheel well.

(1) AIRPLANES WITH SPEED BRAKE LEVER POSITION SENSOR; Disconnect the adjustable control rod from the rod mounting bracket (Fig. 401).

(2) AIRPLANES WITH SPEED BRAKE LEVER POSITION SENSOR; Remove the rod mounting bracket from the forward drum.

(3) Disconnect the speed brake control cables SBA and SBB (Fig. 401): (a) Install cable clamps on the cables to keep a small tension on the cables.
(b) (c) (d) Disconnect the turnbuckles installed in the aft part of the lower nose compartment (Fig. 402).Install tags on the cables for identification.Remove the cable retainers and the cables from the speed brake forward drum (Fig./401).

(4) Remove the forward drum (Fig. 401): (a) Remove the quadrant retaining bolt and washer. (b) Remove the forward drum from the shaft. 1) Hold the cam roller lever arm away from the forward drum.

(5) Remove the lever brake assembly: (a) Disconnect the rod end for the speed brake lever actuator from the lever brake.
(b) Disconnect the lower control rod from the input arm for the lever brake.
(c) Remove the locknut that attaches the lever brake input arm to the shaft.
(d) Remove the bolts from the bearing retainers at each end of the lever brake shaft.
(e) Remove the lever brake from the airplane.
NOTE:____ You can lower the shaft during the removal through the mounting slots in the bracket.
