2) Make sure the clearance between the male and female lugs at the rear spar joint is correct. a) Measure the clearance between the bushing side of the
male and female lugs at the rear spar joint. b) The maximum permitted clearance for each clevis (the sum of the two clearances) is 0.014 inch.
c) If the clearance is more than 0.014 inch, install a CRES laminated shim to make sure the clearance is correct before you re-install the bolts.
NOTE: If you completed SB 55-1058, a CRES washer
____ should be laminated to the center section lug. Make sure that another CRES washer is necessary.
3) Tighten the nuts (3) to 480-600 pound-inches. If the bolts
(1) rotate while tightening the nuts (3), use the horizontal stabilizer spanner wrench to keep the bolts (1) from rotating (Fig. 403).
NOTE: This is a shoulder bolt installation, keep a
____ clearance of 0.005-0.090 inch after the nut is tightened.
If you do not have a clearance of 0.005-0.090 inch after the nut is tightened, install a filler washer, as required, to obtain the correct tolerance (AIPC 55-10-00 Fig. 1A).
NOTE: Due to the configuration of the rear spar
____ failsafe lug, small movement of bolt (1) in the forward and aft direction is acceptable.
4) Fill the empty space of the nut retainers (4) with sealant and push on the nut (3).

5) Install the cotter pin, and then apply a bead of sealant around the bolt adjacent to the nut retainer (4).
(c) Install the front spar fitting: 1) Measure the clearances between the bushing faces of the clevises (13) and the lugs (14).
2) Install the shims (10) to get a maximum permitted 0.005 inch clearance for each side of the lug (14) (maximum 0.010 inch total allowable clearance for each clevis).
3) Install the shims (9), the bolts (11), the washers (6, 8, and 12), and the nuts (7). a) Tighten the nuts (7) to 50 pound-inches. b) Make sure the clearance between the washers (6 and 8)
is not more than 0.002 inch.
c) Tighten the nuts (7) to 800-1000 pound-inches then loosen the nuts (7) to align with the nearest cotter pin hole.
4) Install the cotter pins.

If the elevator is attached to the stabilizer, connect the elevator control pushrod to the elevator:
(a)
Move the elevators, by hand, to the neutral position.
(b)
Install the bolt with the bolt head inboard through the elevator control pushrod and the elevator lug (Fig. 403).
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE FIRST LOCKNUT AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN
_______ THE SECOND LOCKNUT. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(c) Tighten the first locknut to 500-600 pound-inches, then tighten the second locknut to 150-220 pound-inches.
S 434-035
(11)
Connect the forward stabilizer-to-body sliding seal (Fig. 402) at the stabilizer front spars:
(a)
Move the upper and lower seal plate to align the pin holes at the link-to-pedestal assembly.
