Procedure

(1)
Do this task: "Remove Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B"
(Ref 27-31-00/201).

Open the access door 3701 (Ref 12-31-41/201).

If it is necessary, remove the tail cone:
NOTE: The removal of the tail cone is not necessary, but it gives
____ better access for the removal of the torque tube.
(a)
If you remove the tail cone: Make marks on the airplane to show the tail cone locations for correct installation of the tail cone.
(b)
Remove the tail cone (Ref 53-53-00/401).

Set the horizontal stabilizer at 3 units of trim.

Install the rig pin E-5 in the aft control quadrant (Fig. 401).

Remove the EAL, EBL, EAR, and EBR control cables (5) from the quadrants on the torque tube:
(a)
Install the clamps on the cables so the cables will not go through the aft pressure bulkhead.
(b)
Remove the turnbuckle locking clips.
(c)
Loosen the turnbuckles for the elevator cables EAL, EBL, EAR, and EBR.
(d)
Remove the control cables (5).

Remove the torque tube:
(a)
Disconnect the autopilot sensor rod (13) at the aft end.
(b)
Disconnect the autopilot actuator rod (12) at the lower rod end.
(c)
Disconnect the input rods (10) of the power control units at the lower rod ends.
(d)
Disconnect the output rod of the feel and centering unit (1) at the lower rod end.

(e) Use the drill bit 0.187/0.190 and the drill centering guide, to drill out 4 BACB30GW lockbolts (11).
NOTE: Be careful to make sure the holes are not out of
____
tolerance.
(f)
Remove the rig pin E-5.
(g)
Remove the 4 quadrant mounting bolts (7), (8), (9), and (14) from the left and the right side plate assemblies.
(h)
Remove and keep the bushings (15).
NOTE: When the mounting bolt (7) and (8) are removed, the
____ lower attachment of the power control unit will be loose.
(i) Remove the torque tube from the airplane.
