_______ UNWINDING IT FROM THE FORWARD DRUM. IF YOU DO NOT KEEP TENSION ON THE CABLE, THE CABLE MAY BECOME CAUGHT IN THE CABLE GUARDS ON THE FORWARD CABLE DRUM AND DAMAGE TO THE CABLE MAY OCCUR.
(b) When the ball nut touches the stops, do the following: 1) Write the number of turns of the STA cable (16) on the drum and attach it to the cable terminal.
2) Disconnect the cable from the cable drum and secure it so the coil does not unwind.

(13) Install the cable clamps and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag to the stabilizer trim control wheels.

(14) Install the horizontal stabilizer locks:
NOTE: If it is necessary, remove the wire bundle clamps to install

(a) Install the lower horizontal stabilizer lock.

Move the jackscrew to move the stabilizer leading edge down until the stabilizer truss touches the lock.
(c)
Install the upper horizontal stabilizer lock.

Connect the hoist to the jackscrew gearbox (8).
(a)
Install the hoist adapter on the sleeve (7).
(b)
Install the hoist bar between the frames at the top of the compartment above the access door.
(c)
Hold the hoist on the hoist bar and connect it to the hoist adapter.

Disconnect the jackscrew (2) from the stabilizer:
(a)
Disconnect the bonding jumper (10) from the jackscrew gearbox (8). 1) Keep the bonding jumper bolt with the jackscrew gearbox
(8).
(b)
Remove the safety straps (14).
(c)
Remove the two safety bolts (4) from the jackscrew fitting (3).
(d)
Remove the bolts and pull the upper gimbal pins (20) from the upper gimbal (5).
(e)
Move the ball nut (1) down and adjust the jackscrew until it is clear of the jackscrew fitting.
(f)
Install the upper gimbal pins (20) with the bolts.

(17) Remove the stabilizer ball nut (1) and the jackscrew gearbox (8):
CAUTION:_______HOLD THE JACKSCREW VERTICAL WHILE YOU REMOVE THE PINS. IF THE JACKSCREW IS NOT IN THE VERTICAL POSITION, IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(a) Remove the cotter pin, nut, and washer from each lower gimbal pin (13).

Remove the two lower gimbal pins (13).
(c)
Lower the jackscrew (2) until the fitting is clear of the stabilizer truss.
(d)
Lower the jackscrew (2) with the gearbox (8) and the ball nut (1) from the airplane.
