 (3)  Install bearings in the end fittings of the output torque tube.

 (4)  Put and hold the output torque tube at aft bulkhead.

 (5)  Install the pivot bolts in the outboard pivot brackets:
 (a) Apply grease to the shank of each bolt.
 (b) Hold the torque tube in its position.
 (c) Install the pivot bolts with the bolt heads inboard.
 (d) Install the nut and the washer at each bolt.
 (e) Tighten the nut to standard torque.

 (6)  Install the pivot bolts in the inboard pivot brackets by pushing the
 alignment pins out:
 CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU INSTALL THE PIVOT BOLTS. YOU CAN_______
 CAUSE DAMAGE TO BEARING COMPONENTS IF YOU HIT THE PIVOT
 BOLTS DURING THE INSTALLATION.
 (a) Apply grease to the shank of each bolt.
 (b) Install the pivot bolts with the bolt heads inboard.
 (c) Install the washer and the first locknut.
 (d) Tighten the first locknut to 500-600 pound-inches.
 CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE FIRST LOCKNUTS AGAIN AFTER YOU_______
 TIGHTEN THE SECOND LOCKNUTS. IF YOU TIGHTEN THE FIRST
 LOCKNUTS AGAIN, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (e) Install the washer and the second locknut.
 (f) Tighten the second locknut to 150-220 pound-inches.

 (7)  Install the PCU upper mounting bolts to the touque tube.

 (8)  Install the mounting brackets of the autopilot elevator actuators.

 (9)  Install the autopilot elevator actuators (Ref 22-11-26/401).

 Install the tail cone (Ref 53-53-00/401).

 Adjust the elevator control pushrods in this task:  "Adjustment -Elevator and Tab Control System" (Ref 27-31-00/501).

 1.  General_______
 A.  This subject has one task. The task is an inspection of the elevator output torque tube (which is referred to as the "torque tube"). The procedure has these parts:
 (1)
The removal of the torque tube

 (2)
An inspection of the torque tube

 (3)
The installation of the torque tube.
