 3.  Analysis of the Malfunctions in the Electrical Generation System (Fig. 101)________________________________________________________________
 A.  Use the Analysis of the Malfunctions in the Electrical Generation System.
 (1)  
Get an accurate statement of the problem when the problem occurred. The flight log must be written in an accurate manner or the ground crew will use more time to correct the problem. The ground crew will have to carefully monitor the operation of the system to find the cause of the problem.

 (2)  
You can use this trouble shooting chart and the procedures to find the defective component in the AC generation system.


 4.  General Trouble Shooting Procedures___________________________________
 A. Use the trouble shooting procedures to isolate the failures as follows:
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE GENERATOR CONTROL RELAY (GCR) AND THE GENERATOR
_______ CIRCUIT BREAKER (GCB) ARE OPEN BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE GENERATOR CONTROL UNIT (GCU). IF THE GCR OR THE GCB ARE CLOSED, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CURRENT TRANSFORMERS WHEN YOU OPEN THE SECONDARY CIRCUIT.
 B.  Make sure that you have the 28 volt dc control power before you start to look at the system. The 28 volt dc power is necessary is to operate the circuit breakers in the control circuits. Make sure that the circuit breakers for the generator control units, the bus protection panel, and the annunciator panel are closed. If you find a tripped-breaker, examine the electrical wires to make sure that there are no short circuits. The control system will not operate correctly all of the time.
 C.  To trouble shoot the electrical generation and distribution system you can use these components as circuit analyzers:
 (1)  
The annunciator panel (module M238) (WDM 24-25-01, WDM 24-27-21, and WDM 24-35-01).

 (2)  
The warning and control systems.

 (3)  
The switches on the forward overhead panel let you use the airplane electrical meters and temperature indicators.

 (4)  
The battery/galley power module (WDM 24-28-11).


 D.  Connectors and receptacles are found at different locations in the electrical distribution system. These connection points let you connect meters to examine the circuits and components (Ref wiring diagrams WDM 24-28-21 and WDM 24-28-31 and panel P6-6).
