 5. CLEAN THE BATTERY #

 A. General
 (1)  
The battery cells will give a gas when you charge the battery. This gas will come out with the spray of water and potassium hydroxide (KOH). This mixture will react with the carbon dioxide and deposit white crystals of potassium carbonate on the cell tops. This is not corrosion nor is it corrosive properties.

A brush with no metal parts.

 E. Procedure

 WARNING: KEEP ALL THE TOOL THAT YOU USE ON THE LEAD-ACID BATTERIES AWAY
_______ FROM THE NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERIES. THERE COULD BE A CHEMICAL EFFECT AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 KEEP ALL OF THE METAL OBJECTS (FOR EXAMPLE: TOOLS, WIRE BRUSHES, WATCH BANDS, RINGS, AND IDENTIFICATION BRACELETS) AWAY FROM THE OPEN TOP OF THE BATTERY. A SHORT CIRCUIT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 CAUTION:_______REMOVE ALL OF THE BATTERY FLUID LEAKAGE IMMEDIATELY. THE BATTERY FLUID CAN CAUSE CORROSION DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE STRUCTURE.
 (1)  Remove the crystalline material of potassium carbonate with a moist cloth and a brush from these parts:
 (a)  
battery

 (b)  
battery case

 (c)  
battery cover

Clean the battery, the battery tray, and the battery support with de-ionized water.

Dry the battery, the battery tray, and the battery support with a clean cloth.
