 GENERATOR CONSTANT SPEED DRIVE - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

 1.  Generator Constant Speed Drive Adjustment_________________________________________
 A. General
 (1)  
This is a procedure to adjust the output speed of the constant speed drive. There is a short test before the adjustment procedure. This will make sure that the CSD is only out of adjustment and not unservicable.

 (2)  
You can adjust the constant speed drive governor to change the output frequency of the generator. The permitted generator output frequency is 400 | 5 Hz (400 | 4 Hz during adjustment).

 (3)  
The constant speed drive is on the accessory gearbox at the 8 o'clock position.

Make Sure that the Constant Speed Drive Operates Correctly (Fig. 501).

 (1)  
Make sure that the frequency meter on the P5-13 panel is accurate.

Supply engine generator power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

 (a)  Permit the CSD to operate for three minutes to become warm.

Turn the AC meters switch on the P5-13 panel to the applicable GEN 1 or GEN 2 position.

Put electrical loads on the AC buses. Use lights, air conditioning, fuel boost pumps, and hydraulic pumps.

 (5)  Make sure that the frequency meter on the P5-13 panel shows
 400 | 5 Hz.

 (a)  If the frequency is not in the limits, adjustment is necessary. 1) Write down the frequency value.

Remove the electrical loads that you applied before (lights, air conditioning, fuel boost pumps, and hydraulic pumps).

Make sure that the frequency meter on the P5-13 panel shows
 400 | 5 Hz.

 

 (a)  Replace the CSD if the conditions that follow occur: (AMM 24-11-11/401) 1) The frequency is not stable. 2) The frequency goes out of the limits and stays out when you
 apply or remove the loads.

Remove the engine generator power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

Adjust the CSD Output Speed.

 WARNING:_______MAKE SURE THE ENGINES ARE STOPPED WHEN YOU ADJUST THE CSD. THE CSD ADJUSTMENT PUTS MAINTENANCE PERSONS IN THE DANGEROUS ZONE THAT IS AROUND THE ENGINE INLET. ENGINE SUCTION CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
