Examine the electrical cable connections of the external power receptacle for these problems:
(a)
An incorrect color of the electrical cable terminals because of corrosion or too much heat.
(b)
Verify the nut, washers and terminal lug are configured as shown in Fig. 601.
(c)
Nuts that are loose on the terminal of the receptacle pin. 1) Make sure the torque on the 3/8 inch nuts (pins A, B, C and D) is 120 to 125 pound-inches.
2) Make sure torque on the 10/32 inch nuts (pins E and F) is 20 to 22 pound-inches.
NOTE: The pins E and F are dc control.

(d) Examine external power receptacle neutral ground conductor and stud connections from the inside of the airplane for the following: 1) Check the electrical bonding of the neutral ground
connection (SWPM 20-20-00). 2) Discoloration of the conductor from overheating.
F. Put the Airplane Back to the Initial Condition

Install the conductor guard on the external power receptacle.

Close the forward panel on the right side of the nose wheel well.
(a) Apply grease, D00015 to the hole of the washers and the fastener shanks before installing them.

3. External Power Receptacle Check_______________________________
A. General
(1) If you use the Exernal Power Receptacle in a dirty area too frequently, this will wear the receptacle pin and plug socket. This will cause too much heat and incorrect electrical connections. Corrosion or loose connections can also be the cause of the receptacle pins which become too hot. The connections are from the electrical conductors to the inner ends of the pins. Worn parts, too much heat and the result of the oxidation and corrosion will cause the pin and socket dimensions to change.

(2) The external power receptacle contains four ac input pins that are
0.435 to 0.437 inch in the diameter. The receptacle also contains two dc control pins that are 0.310 to 0.312 inch in the diameter. The six pins are attached to a plastic base. The six pins have threads on the inboard ends, for the connection of the electrical cables. You cannot remove the pins for a replacement. Replace the damaged or smaller contact pins with a new support base which contains the six pins.

(1) Do a pin check on the external power receptacle.
(a)
Open the GND SERVICE circuit breaker on the panel P6-11 and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag.
(b)
Set the battery switch on the overhead panel P5 to OFF.
(c)
Do a check on the ac pins.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE FORCE TO PUSH THE WEAR GAGE ON THE PINS.
_______ THE WEAR GAGE IS A GO-NO-GO GAGE AND SHOULD NOT FIT OVER THE PIN. TOO MUCH FORCE ON THE PIN CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
