Prepare to Install the VSCF.

(1) Examine the VSCF and the parts that attach it.
CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL A VSCF WITH A DRIVE SPLINE THAT HAS DAMAGE.

THIS CAN CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE VSCF.
(a) Make sure that the drive shaft of the VSCF does not have damage.
CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL THE VSCF IF THE DRIVE SPLINE IS NOT CLEAN
_______ BEFORE YOU LUBRICATE IT. CONTAMINATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE SPLINE WHEN THE VSCF OPERATES.
(b)
Make sure the drive shaft of the VSCF is clean before you lubricate it.
(c)
Make sure the drive splines in the accessory gearbox are not damaged.
(d)
Make sure there is no preservation fluid in the VSCF.
NOTE: It is necessary to drain the preservation fluid from the
____ VSCF before you install the VSCF. You do not have to flush the VSCF.

(2) Install the parts that attach the VSCF to the accessory gearbox.
(a)
Clean these parts with dry cleaning solvent:
1) QAD adapter gaskets
2) Adapter plate
3) QAD locking ring
4) Input flange pad of the VSCF.
(b)
Remove the solvent from the parts.
(c)
Make sure there are no burrs on the adapter plate and the O-ring groove.
(d)
Lubricate the QAD adapter gaskets with Arcyloid HF866.

(e)
Install the QAD adapter gaskets on the adapter plate.
(f)
Lubricate a new O-ring with Acryloid HF866.
(g)
Install the O-ring in the VSCF groove.
(h)
Lubricate the lock threads of the QAD locking ring with a mixture (equal parts by weight) of molybdenum disulphate and Rheotemp 500 grease.
(i)
Install the QAD adapter locking ring on the QAD adapter plate.
(j)
Lubricate the lug bolt, the spherical washer, and the nut (on the QAD locking ring) with oil.
(k)
Lubricate the drive shaft of the VSCF with oil.
F. Install the VSCF.

(1) Attach the VSCF to the accessory gearbox.
(a)
Put the VSCF on the accessory gearbox.
(b)
Align the locating pin on the VSCF with the dowel on the QAD locking ring.
(c)
Engage the lug bolt on the VSCF with the nut on the QAD locking ring.
(d)
Tighten the QAD locking ring.
1) Do these steps again until the torque of the lug bolt does not change after you hit the QAD locking ring. a) Tighten the lug bolt to 90-100 pound-inches. b) Lightly hit the QAD locking ring with a non-marring
hammer. c) Make sure that the torque for the lug bolt is 90-100 pound-inches. 2) Loosen the lug bolt until the head of the lug bolt does not touch the lug. 3) Tighten the lug bolt again until the lug bolt touches the
lug. 4) Tighten the lug bolt 1/2 turn more. 5) Install lockwire on the lug bolt.

(2) Connect the hoses to the VSCF.
(a)
Connect the oil outlet hose to the fitting on the VSCF.
(b)
Install the parts that connect the oil inlet hose to the VSCF. 1) Lubricate a new O-ring with Acryloid HF866. 2) Install the O-ring on the oil inlet fitting of the VSCF. 3) Install the retainer, the elbow, and the nut on the
