 GENERATOR DRIVE LINE OIL FILTER - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
_______________________________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  This is a procedure to remove the filter element in the line oil filter (or scavenge filter) and to install a new one. This procedure is necessary during these conditions:
 (1)  
During scheduled maintenance times.

 (2)  
If a large quantity of metal particles are on the magnetic plug on the CSD.

 (3)  
If the pop-out button is extended.

 (4)  
If the generator drive became too hot.

 B.  
The line oil filter is in the oil-out line between the generator drive and the oil cooler. The filter keeps contamination away from the oil cooler if a generator drive failure occurs.

 C.  
The line oil filter has a differential-pressure pop-out button. This button will extend when a large quantity of particles stop the flow of oil through the line oil filter. A large quantity of metal particles on the magnetic plug and the filter element is an indication of a mechanical failure of the generator drive.

Remove the Filter Element (Fig. 201)

 (1)  
Open the right fan cowl on the applicable engine (AMM 71-11-02/201).

 (2)  
Remove the lockwire from the filter case.

 WARNING:_______DO NOT TOUCH THE OIL SYSTEM PARTS WHEN THEY ARE HOT. THESE PARTS STAY HOTTER THAN THE OTHER ENGINE PARTS AFTER AN ENGINE SHUTDOWN. OIL SYSTEM PARTS THAT ARE HOT CAN BURN YOU.
 DO NOT LET THE OIL TOUCH YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. YOU CAN ABSORB POISONOUS MATERIALS FROM THE OIL THROUGH YOUR SKIN. OIL ON YOUR SKIN CAN CAUSE DERMATITIS AFTER A LONG TIME.
 (3)  Loosen and remove the filter case.
 (a)  Discard the O-ring for the filter case.

 (4)  Remove the filter element from the filter case.
 (a)  Discard the filter element and the O-ring for the filter element.
 E. Install a New Filter Element (Fig. 201)

 CAUTION: DURING MAINTENANCE ON THE OIL SYSTEM, MAKE SURE THAT YOU KEEP
_______ ALL OF THE PARTS CLEAN. CONTAMINATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE GENERATOR DRIVE.
 DO NOT USE ALKALINE CLEANING FLUIDS TO CLEAN THE PARTS OF THE OIL SYSTEM. DO NOT LET ALKALINE CLEANING FLUIDS OR HYDRAULIC FLUID TOUCH THE GENERATOR DRIVE OIL. VERY SMALL QUANTITIES OF THESE FLUIDS CAN CAUSE THE OIL TO CHEMICALLY CHANGE. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE GENERATOR DRIVE.
 (1)
Lubricate a new filter element O-ring with generator drive oil.

 (2)  
Install the new O-ring on the inner side of the opening of the filter element.

 (3)  
Lubricate a new filter case O-ring with generator drive oil.

 (4)  
Install the new filter case O-ring in the filter housing.

 (5)
Apply a thin layer of petrolatum on the threads of the filter case.

 (6)  
Put the filter element into the filter case.
