VARIABLE SPEED CONSTANT FREQUENCY SIGHT GLASS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks:
(1)
The removal of the sight glass from the variable speed constant frequency (Refer to as VSCF).
(2)
The installation and the leak check of the sight glass on the VSCF.

CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE THE VSCF AREA IS ALWAYS CLEAN. A DIRTY SYSTEM CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE VSCF.
(1) Get access to the sight glass (AMM 71-11-02/201).
(a) Open the engine cowl panel.

WARNING:_______LOWER THE OIL LEVEL BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE SIGHT GLASS. HOT OIL THAT DRAINS FROM THE GENERATOR DRIVE CAN CAUSE INJURY.
(2) Drain the oil until it is below the bottom of the sight glass.
(a) Set the bucket below the case drain plug to catch the used oil.

WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE OIL SYSTEM PARTS WHEN THEY ARE HOT.
_______ THESE PARTS STAY HOTTER THAN THE OTHER ENGINE PARTS AFTER AN ENGINE SHUTDOWN. OIL SYSTEM PARTS THAT ARE HOT CAN BURN YOU.
DO NOT LET THE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. YOU CAN ABSORB POISONOUS MATERIALS FROM THE OIL THROUGH YOUR SKIN. OIL ON YOUR SKIN CAN CAUSE DERMATITIS AFTER A LONG TIME.
(b)
Remove the overfill drain fitting from the VSCF, if you did not do this before.
(c)
Remove the case drain lockwire from the case drain plug.
(d)
Remove the case drain plug from the VSCF.
(e)
Let the oil drain from the VSCF.
(f)
Remove the bucket.
1) Discard the used oil from the bucket.
(g)
Install the case drain plug into the VSCF. 1) Install the case drain lockwire to the case drain plug.
CAUTION: IMMEDIATELY REMOVE ALL OF THE OIL THAT FALLS ON THE ENGINE
_______ PARTS. OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PAINT AND SOME RUBBER PARTS.
(h) Clean the engine parts that have oil on them.

(3) Remove the sight glass.
(a) Remove the screws from the indicator plate.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE SIGHT GLASS DOES NOT FALL INTO THE
_______ TRANSMISSION DURING THE REMOVAL. REMOVE ALL THE GLASS FROM THE TRANSMISSION IF YOU BREAK THE GLASS. YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE GLASS.
