STORAGE BATTERY - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains 4 tasks for the storage battery (referred to as battery).
(1)
The removal of the battery.
(2)
The installation of the battery.
(3)
The check of the battery.
(4)
The cleaning of the battery.
B.
Battery Servicing Limits
(1)
You cannot do servicing on the 20-cell nickel-cadmium battery while it is installed on the airplane.
C.
Safety Precautions
(1)
Keep all the equipment and material that you use on the lead-acid batteries away from the nickel-cadmium batteries.
(2)
Do not touch the fluid that is in the battery. Clean the fluid off the skin with a 3% solution of acetic acid or vinegar and large quantity of water.
(3)
Do not let the fluid in the battery fall on the airplane structure. If there is battery fluid on the airplane structure, refer to the Corrosion Prevention Manual, Part I, CPM 20-43-00.

The battery is installed on a tray in the electronic equipment
compartment adjacent to the access door (Fig. 201).
