 WING GEAR DOORS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

General (Fig. 1)

 A.  The wing gear has two sets of doors, wing gear wheel well door and wing gear shock strut door. The wing gear wheel well door closes over the body portion of the gear wheel well and is hydraulically actuated. The wing gear shock strut door closes over the wing portion of the gear opening and is attached to the gear strut by linkage rods. The shock strut door is opened and closed by the extension or retraction of the wing gear. Each door is of frame construction with skin paneling on the inner and outer sides.
Wing Gear Wheel Well Door (Fig. 2)

 A.  The wing gear wheel well door consists of an inboard door and an outboard door. The inboard door is hinged to support structure under the keel beam and is connected and controlled through a linkage rod attached to a door hydraulic actuator. A strike board hinge-mounted both to the body structure and to the inboard door prevents a tire from hanging up on a door not fully opened. The outboard door is hinged to the inboard door and is supported and guided by two radius rods. The radius rods control the door during all movement and also provide a means of adjusting the door. The wheel well doors close when the gear is locked up or down, and can be manually opened or closed for ground maintenance.
Wing Gear Shock Strut Door (Fig. 3)

 A.  The wing gear shock strut door consists of an outboard door, an inboard door, and an adjustable door fairing. The outboard door is hinged to the wing structure and attached to the gear shock strut by a linkage rod. The inboard door is hinged to the outboard door and attached to the drag strut by a linkage rod. The door fairing is bolted to the inboard door.
Door Ground Release Handle

 A.  The door ground release handle is located near aft inboard corner of body gear wheel well and is accessible through body gear strut door opening.
 B.  The operation of each door ground release handle drives the associated wing and body gear door safety valves to "pressure dumped" position and unlocks the door actuator locks. The weight of the door then causes the door to open. The safety valve and door lock actuation mechanism is identical with that used for emergency extension.
 C.  Release of doors on ground is accomplished by moving the ground door release handle to the doors open position. Closing of doors on ground is accomplished by pressurizing hydraulic systems No. 1 and No. 4 and moving the ground door release handle to the doors closed position. Refer to decal on the inboard aft main landing gear door adjacent to the ground door release handle for operating instructions, cautions and warnings.
