CAUTION:_______LIFT THE AIRPLANE IN A LEVEL ATTITUDE. DO NOT EXTEND THE SHOCK STRUTS FULLY. KEEP THE DIMENSION X TO 33.65 INCHES FOR THE WING LANDING GEAR (AMM 12-15-03/301) AS A LIMIT. AND KEEP THE DIMENSION X TO 32.30 INCHES FOR THE BODY LANDING GEAR AS A LIMIT (AMM 12-15-04/301).
(2)
Add fluid to the three shock struts to lift the airplane (approximately 10 inches) until you get to the lower bearing (12).
S 038-074
(3)
Remove the lower bearing assembly.
(a)
Remove the bearing puller.
(b)
Lower the bearing assembly to the gland nut (9).
S 028-077
(4) Remove the seals.
CAUTION: PUT A PROTECTION STRIP BETWEEN THE SEAL AND THE SURFACE OF
_______ THE INNER CYLINDER WHILE YOU CUT THE SEAL. THIS WILL PREVENT THE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE INNER CYLINDER. THE NICKS OR SCRATCHES ON THE INNER CYLINDER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INNER CYLINDER. THEY WILL ALSO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEALS WHILE THE SEALS MOVE THROUGH THE NICKS OR SCRATCHES.
(a)
Cut the used seals (6) and (8) from around the inner cylinder (13).
(b)
Use the plastic tool to prevent damage to the inner cylinder surfaces.
S 118-078
(5) Clean all parts fully with hydraulic fluid specified on the shock strut nameplate.

(7) Install the seals.
CAUTION: USE ONLY THE TYPE OF HYDRAULIC FLUID SHOWN IN THE
_______ SHOCK STRUT NAMEPLATE. DIFFERENT TYPES OF FLUID WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEALS.
CAUTION: THE SEALS MUST BE RESISTANT TO THE TYPE OF FLUID SHOWN ON
_______ THE SHOCK STRUT NAMEPLATE. THE INCORRECT TYPE OF FLUID CAN CAUSE SEAL DETERIORATION AND FLUID CONTAMINATION.
(a)
Apply a layer of the applicable hydraulic fluid on one pair of the spare seals.
(b)
Rub all open surfaces of the inner cylinder (13) and the lower bearing (12) with the hydraulic fluid specified on the shock strut nameplate.
CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL NOT TO EXTEND THE SEAL MORE THAN NECESSARY. IT CAN INCREASE THE PROBLEM FOR THE INSTALLATION.
(c)
Carefully lift up the spare seal (4) and apply a light layer of hydraulic assembly lubricant.
(d)
You carefully move the seal up into the groove at the top of the lower bearing.
(e)
Use the blunt nonmetallic tool if it is necessary.
(f)
Examine that the seal is not twisted.
(g)
Lift the seal (3) and apply a light layer of hydraulic assembly lubricant.
(h)
Move the seal up into the outer groove of the lower bearing.
