Prepare for the Installation


 S 224-022
 (1)  
Examine the attach points on the upper spindle of the side strut, the jury strut spindle, and the lower spindle pin of the side strut for worn areas (AMM 32-11-05/601, AMM 32-11-09/601 and AMM 32-11-07/201).

 S 434-023

 (2)  
Prepare the lower spindle pin for installation.

 (a)  
Examine the O-rings (14) on the lubrication insert (15) for worn areas or damage.


 NOTE: Replace the parts if it is necessary.

 (b)  
Apply a thick layer of grease on the O-rings (14), the lubrication insert (15), and the inner surface of the spindle bolt (16).

 (c)  
Move the O-rings (14) to the lubrication insert (15).

 (d)  
Lubricate the insert again if it is necessary.

 (e)  
Move the lubrication insert (15) into the bolt (16) to do the assembly for the lower spindle pin.

 G. Procedure
 S 864-024
 (1)  Make sure that the bungee clamp is its position on the strut.
 S 424-025
 WARNING:_______MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE PARTS ADEQUATELY. THE SIDE STRUT COMPONENT ASSEMBLY WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 305 POUNDS. THE BUNGEE IS SPRING-LOADED. FAILURE TO DO THAT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (2)  
Lift the side strut component into its position below the airplane.

 S 434-027

 (3)  
Install the spindle (2), the washer and the nut in the airplane structure.

 (a)  
Tighten the nut 3000 - 3600 pound-inches.

 (b)  
Loosen and tighten the nut again to 60-120 pound-inches and install the lockbolt.

 (4)  
Use the thread protector to install the spindle (6) into the attachment fitting of the shock strut.

 (a)  
Install the washer and the nut.

 (b)  
Tighten the nut 96 - 144 pound-inches to install the spindle.

 (c)  
Loosen the nut to adjust the torque to zero.


 NOTE: Tighten the nut 12 - 24 pound-inches again.

 (5)  
Align the lower end of the side strut with the spindle (13).

 (a)  
Put the side plates (10) of the truck lock in its position between the spindle and the side strut.

 (6)  
Install the assembly of the spindle bolt pin (14, 15, 16), the washer and the nut.

 (a)  
Align the spindle bolt head that has the anti-rotation quality on the lower side strut.


 S 434-031
 (7)  
Put three bolts with the washers through the side plates (10), the roller (9), the link (11), and the pushrod end (12) to assemble the truck lock components.

 (a)  
Install the washers and the nuts.

 (b)  
Tighten the nuts to 36 - 60 pound-inches and install the cotter pins.

 (8)  
Adjust the mechanical lock (AMM 32-11-23/501).
