Prepare for the procedure


 S 588-064
 (1)  Park the airplane in a level location after move it straight for a short distance to prevent the gear windup.
 S 498-102
 WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY INSTALL THE GROUND LOCKS IN ALL LANDING
_______ GEAR. AN ACCIDENTAL RETRACTION OF THE LANDING GEAR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (2) Install the ground locks in all landing gear (AMM 09-11-00/201).

 WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY DO THE STEPS IN THE TASK BELOW TO INSTALL
_______ THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE LANDING GEAR DOORS. THE DOORS CAN CLOSE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE DOOR LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (3)  
Do this task: "Installation of the Door Locks on the Wing Landing Gear" (AMM 32-00-30/201).

 (4)  
Do this task: "Installation of the Door Locks on the Body Landing Gear" (AMM 32-00-30/201).

 (5)  
Open the actuator bleed valve to decrease the pressure on the hydraulic system.

 (a)  
Stop the truck positioning actuator on the strut.

 WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE VALVE BODY UNLESS YOU DEFLATE THE SHOCK STRUT
_______ FULLY. THE AIR PRESSURE CAN BLOW THE VALVE OUT AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (6)  
Remove the air valve caps.

 (a)  
Loosen the outer nut no more than two turns to deflate all the shock struts.


 NOTE: The hydraulic fluid will have bubbles immediately
____ while you decrease the pressure to the ambient. Deflate the shock strut slowly to prevent the leak of fluid through the air valve.

 (7)  
Drain the shock strut for the left body landing gear
 (AMM 32-13-02/301).


 (a)  
Put a tray that can hold approximately 15 gallons below the flow fuse (used as drain plug).

 (b)  
Make sure you decrease all the pressure on the shock struts.

 (c)  
Remove the flow fuse and drain the fluid.

 CAUTION: USE ONLY THE TYPE OF THE HYDRAULIC FLUID SHOWN ON THE SHOCK
_______ STRUT NAMEPLATE FOR THE LANDING GEAR. DIFFERENT TYPES OF FLUID WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEALS.
 (8)  
Connect a hydraulic source that can supply fluid at 2000 psi to the left wing landing gear.

 (a)  
Connect one more source that can supply fluid at 2000 psi to the right wing and body landing gear (acts as load evener).

 CAUTION: DO NOT LIFT THE AIRPLANE IF THE GROSS WEIGHT IS MORE THAN

 564,000 POUNDS. IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

 (9)  
Add hydraulic fluid to extend the wing and the right body landing gear at a level roll attitude.

 (a)  
Keep the strut of the nose landing gear flat.

 (b)  
Lift the aircraft until the chrome surface shows (approximately


 11.5 inches) on the inner cylinder of the strut
 (c)
This will permit the installation of the bearing puller.

Procedure


 S 498-119
 (1)  Install the retainer puller for the lower bearing seal.
 CAUTION: KEEP THE GLAND NUT (9) AND THE OUTER CYLINDER (2) TOGETHER
_______ AS A SET. IF THE OUTER CYLINDER THREADS WERE REWORKED, THE GLAND NUT WOULD BE UNIQUE TO THE OUTER CYLINDER. A DIFFERENT GLAND NUT WILL NOT FIT THE OUTER CYLINDER TIGHTLY AND CAN CAUSE THE LANDING GEAR FAILURE DURING THE OPERATION.
 (a)  
Use the wrench adapter to remove the lockplate and loosen the gland nut (9).

 (b)  
Move the gland nut (9), the scraper ring and the retainer down to the inner cylinder yoke.

 (c)  
Install the split guide for the lower gland seal.
