(aa) If the seal flange is not confined, push the seal more into the gland with the finger tight pressure.
NOTE: Because of the depth of the gland in the seal carrier
____ (10), the seal (11) is not fully installed. Use the lower bearing (12) to fully install the seal (11).
(ab) Install the backup rings (11). (ac) Carefully align the ends 180 degrees apart.

(ad) Assemble the guide sleeve around the inner piston above the lower bearing to the guide ring.
(ae) Remove the installation ram, the compression ring assembly and the seal guide ring.
(af) Remove the gland nut lockplate and move the follower (1) down through the guide sleeve.

Install the lower bearing assembly.
(a)
Lift the seal (3) up and apply a light layer of hydraulic assembly lubricant .
(b)
Move the seal (3) into the outer groove of the lower bearing and install the backup rings.
(c)
Put the gland nut (9), the scraper ring (14) and the lower bearing assembly on top of each other.
(d)
Measure the height and get the dimension as the dimension A (Fig. 802).
(e)
Lift the lower bearing as high as possible.
(f)
Assemble the installation ram above the inner cylinder below the lower bearing with the end up.
(g)
Use the ram as a ring hammer with upward movement to hit the lower bearing.
(h)
Continue to hit the lower bearing until the bearing top is its position to go into the split guide.
(i)
Start the pump to lift up the jack until the wheels are clear from the ground.
NOTE:____The jacks will give a 5-inch travel. If it is necessary to have higher travel, put a board below the base of the jacks. Put the lower bearing sufficiently to start to engage the threads of the gland nut.
(j)
While you strongly shake the bogie, hit the lower bearing up into the outer cylinder through the split guide.
(k)
There will be more resistance while the seal (3) goes into the split guide.
(l)
When the seal (3) fully goes into the split guide and the bore of the center cylinder, remove the split guide.
(m)
Continue to hit the lower bearing upward until you install the bearing as far as the ram permits.

(n) Apply the corrosion inhibition material to the gland nut threads.

Remove the installation ram.
(a)
Move the washer, the scraper ring and the gland nut up.
(b)
Make sure you fully engage the threads of the gland nut.
(c)
Release the jacks and lower the bogie until the wheels are on the ground.
(d)
Remove the jacks.
(e)
If you had used a board below the jack, put a same thickness board below the wheels.
(f)
With the wheels on the board, remove the board from below the base of the jacks.
(g)
This will permit to fully lower the wheels to the ground.
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE GLAND NUT MORE THAN THE TORQUE LIMIT TO
_______ ALIGN THE SLOTS. TOO MUCH TORQUE DOES NOT MAKE A BETTER SEAL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO PARTS.
