 (2)  
Clean all parts fully with hydraulic fluid specified on the shock strut nameplate.

 S 218-013

 (3)  
Examine that the backup rings (7 and 11) are serviceable.

 (a)  
Replace the backup rings if they have nicked, scratched or damaged.


 NOTE: The recommended installation is to replace all
____ the backup rings with new backup rings. Use the used backup rings only after a full inspection and new rings are not available.
 (b)  Examine that the scraper rings are serviceable.

 (4)  Install the seals.
 CAUTION: USE ONLY THE TYPE OF HYDRAULIC FLUID SHOWN ON THE SHOCK
_______ STRUT NAMEPLATE. DIFFERENT TYPES OF FLUID WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEALS.
 CAUTION: THE SEALS MUST BE RESISTANT TO THE TYPE OF FLUID SHOWN ON
_______ THE SHOCK STRUT NAMEPLATE. THE INCORRECT TYPE OF FLUID CAN CAUSE SEAL DETERIORATION AND FLUID CONTAMINATION.
 (a)  
Apply the applicable hydraulic fluid on one set of the spare seals (3 and 4).

 (b)  
Rub all open surfaces of the inner cylinder (13), the lower bearing (12) and the seal retainer with hydraulic fluid specified on the shock strut nameplate.

 (c)  
Lift up the spare seal (4) and apply a light layer of hydraulic assembly lubricant.

 CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL NOT TO EXTEND THE SEAL MORE THAN NECESSARY. IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEAL OR INCREASE THE PROBLEM FOR THE INSTALLATION.

 (d)  
Move the spare seal (4) to the top surface of the lower bearing (12).

 (e)  
Set the backup rings (11) in the gland.

 (f)  
Make sure the backup rings touch the inner cylinder surface.

 (g)  
Open the compression strap.

 (h)  
Put the strap around the inner cylinder (13).

 (i)  
Attach the lever in the slot to connect the ends.

 (j)  
Adjust the strap loosely around the seal with the seal and the strap on the top of the lower bearing.

 (k)  
Attach the latch on the hook but do not close the lever.

 (l)  
Assemble the seal guide ring on the inner cylinder (13) with the flange up.

 (m)  
Tighten the socket screws tightly with the allen wrench.

 (n)  
Make sure the three thumb screws are in its position.

 (o)  
Move the guide ring down until the edge of the compression strap is against the shoulder of the thumb screws.


 CAUTION: FAILURE TO USE THE INSTALLATION TOOL WITH THE MANUFACTURER
_______ INSTRUCTIONS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEAL. AND IT CAN ALSO DECREASE THE SEAL LIFE.
 (p)  
Close the lever on the compression strap tightly.

 (q)  
This compresses the cross section to the correct dimension for the installation into the gland.

 (r)  
Remove the three thumb screws and tighten the jamnut.


 NOTE: Loosen the jamnut below the handle, close the handle
____ on the compression ring and tighten or loosen the strap. These can adjust the compression until you get the fit.
 (s)  
Remove the three thumb screws.

 (t)  
Assemble the installation ram with the end up above the inner cylinder (13) above the lower bearing.

 (u)  
Hold the handles of the installation ram.

 (v)  
Use the ram as a ring hammer to move the seal guide ring down.

 (w)  
Put the seal (4) into the gland.

 1)  It is necessary to blow two or more times on the guide ring.

 (x)  
If the unwanted bounce occurs, examine the bottom edge of the compression strap.

 (y)  
See if the flange of the seal is not confined. 1) If the flange is not confined, disassemble the seal compression strap.

 2)  Replace the thumb screws on the seal guide ring and install the seal again.

 (z)
