MAINTENANCE MANUAL
5. Operation
_________
A. Functional Description
(1)
When the control handle is pulled out, the inner end is raised from a detent to free the lever for movement to another position. Moving the lever up or down rotates a quadrant which operates cables connected to the wing gear selector valve and to the body and nose gear selector valve. Cable movement operates the selector valves which pressurize the landing gear hydraulic systems. Releasing the control handle when the desired position has been selected allows the lever to drop into a detent. This holds the lever in the position selected. In the DN position, the handle operates the gear down indicator switches which provide inputs to the indicating and warning system.
(2)
If conditions are not right for gear retraction, the control handle is blocked from inadvertent movement to UP by a lever attached to a lock solenoid. When the wheels on all main gear are tilted and body gear steering actuators locked, the solenoid is energized, pulling the lever away and unblocking the handle. The solenoid remains energized while the gear is up (or gear down with wheels tilted) and electrical power is on the airplane.
B.
Control
(1)
The control handle is pulled out and raised or lowered to the UP or DN position as required. The lock lever may be manually moved aside for tests, or in emergencies, by depressing the lock overide button. The lock overide feature should not be used with the airplane on the ground unless all landing gear ground lockpins are installed. Otherwise an inadvertent retraction of the landing gear could occur.
