WEATHER RADAR SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING
_______________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  This subject contains the trouble shooting procedure. The trouble shooting procedure uses the self test circuits of the weather radar to start the procedure. The test pattern and the failure isolation procedures are used to find the LRU that must be replaced.
 B.  The weather radar indicator is referred to as the WXR indicator.
 C.  The self-test uses the monitor circuits to monitor system operation. When the TEST mode is selected, the receiver/transmitter examines the system and sends a special test pattern to the WXR indicator. Failure monitor circuits are used to change the test pattern if a failure is found.
 D.  During self test when the TEST mode is selected on the WXR indicator, the system is examined by a self test. The receiver/transmitter sends RF energy into a dummy load. A test pattern is supplied with weather colors to the WXR indicator. See Fig. 101.
 E.  Do the self test and the tests in Fig. 102 to find the unserviceable unit. Replace the LRU recommended in Fig. 102 then repeat the step that failed.
 F.  The message fields shown on the WXR indicator (Fig. 101) are described as follows:
 (1)
Mode field - mode messages of STBY, WX, MAP, or TEST show.

 (2)
Sub mode field - FRZ message flashes in a cyan or green color.

 (3)
Range mark numerics - four range messages are shown on the WXR indicator for each set RANGE. Range and azimuth marks show in a green or a cyan color.

 (a)
Range and range mark numerics are shown in green for the MAP mode.

 (b)
Range mark and range mark numerics are shown in blue for the WX, WX/T, and the TEST modes.

 (c)
The VAR message shows when the GAIN control is out of the PRESET position and the weather radar mode is in the WX or MAP position.

 (d)
The VAR message can be cancelled and a FRZ message is shown when the FRZ control is on.

 (4)
Target alert field - Shows a letter T or a TGT message in a red triangle.

 (a)  A letter T message shows when the TGT ALRT switch is on.

 (b)  A red target alert TGT message with an upward pointing arrow flashes when a red or magenta-level target is in the target alert field during ALRT operation.
 (5)  Auxiliary Field - Numerics 1,2, and 3 and a color bar shows for the WX and Map modes.
 (a)
In the WX mode the color bar is green ,yellow, and red.

 (b)
In the map mode the color bar is cyan, yellow, and magenta.
