MARKER BEACON SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General_______
A. This subject has two tasks. The tasks are; an operational test and a system test. The operational test uses only the test switch on the marker beacon receiver to do a check of the system. The system test uses external test equipment and does a full check of the marker beacon system.

2. Marker Beacon System Operational Test_____________________________________
A. General
(1) You do this task to make sure the correct indicators come on when you push the test switch.

(1)
Do this task to supply electrical power: "Manual Control" (Ref 24-22-00/201).
(2)
Permit 10 minutes for the marker beacon receiver to energize.

(3)
Do the operational test of the marker beacon system:
(a)
Set the audio selector panel for the captain to the MKR position.
(b)
Connect the hedset to the interphone system.
(c)
Push-to-test the marker beacon indicator lights.

(d) Push and hold the test switch on the front panel of the marker beacon receiver. 1) After approximately 5 seconds, make sure the blue, amber,
and clear indicator lights come on in this sequence.
2) Make sure you hear a sound through the interphone system
which goes from a low frequency to a high frequency.

(4) Do this task to remove electrical power if it is not necessary: "Manual Control" (Ref 24-22-00/201).

3. Marker Beacon System - System Test

(1) The procedure in this task uses a ramp test set as a ground transmitter.

Do the marker beacon system test:
(a)
Set the sensitivity control switch to the HIGH position.
(b)
Set the switch on the audio select panel to the MKR position.
(c)
Put the ramp test set directly below the marker beacon antenna.
(d)
Extend the antenna on the ramp test set to its full length.
NOTE: Do not let the ramp test set antenna touch the marker

beacon antenna.
(e) Align the antenna for the ramp test set along the front and aft axis of the airplane.
