2. APU Engine (Fig. 2, Fig. 3)

A. The APU engine has two counter-rotating turbines which moves two rotor assemblies. The high turbine moves the generator rotor assembly while the power turbine moves the load compressor rotor assembly. Each rotor assembly has a compressor shaft that connects to a single-stage centrifugal impeller. The compressor shaft connects to the accessory gearbox at the other end through a tower shaft and bevel gears to move the APU accessories (starter motor, fuel pump, oil pressure pump and scavenge pump). The compressor shaft transmits a torque to the load gearbox to move the two generators and the cooling fan. For a more detailed description of the APU engine, refer to AMM 49-21-00/001.
3. APU Air Inlet

A. The APU air inlet supplies outside air from the air inlet door on the right side of the airplane and through an air inlet duct to the APU air inlet plenum. The air inlet door is partially open for in-flight operations and fully open for on-ground operations. The air inlet door is fully closed when the APU is not operating. The APU air inlet has the air inlet duct, air inlet duct seal, air inlet door, air inlet door actuator and air inlet door position switch.
