APU AIR INLET - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_________________________________________
General
_______
A. The APU air inlet provides for the control and passage of air from the exterior of the airplane to the air inlet plenum. The air inlet is located in the APU compartment directly above the APU. It consists of the air inlet door, the inlet door actuator, the air inlet duct, and the seal for the air inlet duct.
Air Inlet Duct (Fig. 1)
______________
A. The air inlet duct conducts air to the air inlet plenum. The duct is made of fiberglass-honeycomb construction with a cork covering on critical external surfaces for fire retardation. The duct is supported by two braces; one attached to the firewall and the other to the overhead structure. The seal for the air inlet duct is attached to the lower end of the duct.
B. The air inlet duct is located between the skin of the airplane and the air inlet plenum. At the upper end, the duct is fastened to the outer skin of the airplane with rivets and bolts. The duct provides a mounting structure for the inlet door actuator athe inlet door, and the door position switch.
