AUXILIARY POWER UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
___________________________________________
1. General_______
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1)
A removal of the auxiliary power unit (APU)
(2)
An installation of the APU.
B.
There are two procedures available for the removal and installation of the APU. Each procedure is optional to the other. The procedure that is used is given by the ground equipment that is available.
(1)
Procedure 1
(a)
This procedure uses three fishpole hoists to lift and lower the APU. Two of the hoists attach to the sides of the front yoke that is part of the APU stand assembly. During the removal of the APU, the front yoke is removed from the APU stand assembly. The front yoke is then attached to the front of the APU.
(b)
The third fishpole hoist attaches to a sling at the rear of the APU. The sling attaches to the two ground handling lugs on the sides of the APU.
(2)
Procedure 2
(a)
This procedure uses an APU hydraulic jackstand and a height adjustable stand to lift and lower the APU. The APU cradle is attached to the jackstand with bolts. The jackstand is put on the height adjustable stand. The height adjustable stand lifts the APU to the APU compartment. From there, the hydraulic jackstand moves the APU in and out of the APU compartment.
C.
You can get access to the APU through the two APU access doors.
