 COMBUSTION CHAMBER DRAIN VALVE - INSPECTION/CHECK

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure contains a task to do an inspection of the drain valve for the combustion chamber. This inspection examines the drain valve for blockage, spring compression, and the condition of the mating surfaces.
 B.  The drain valve for the combustion chamber is on the bottom of the APU engine, aft of the accessory gearbox. You can get access to the drain valve through the APU access doors.

Procedure


 S 016-002
 (1)  
Do this task: "Combustion Chamber Drain Valve Removal" (Ref 49-16-01/401).

 S 216-010

Visually examine the drain valve for blockage and damage:

 (a)  
Examine the drain valve surface for nicks, gouges, scratches, and burrs.


 NOTE: You must carefully examine the seal surface around
____ the counterbore in the spring side of the drain valve.
 (b)  Examine the drain valve for blockage of the six holes in the valve. 1) If you find blocked holes, put a No. 58 (0.042 inch) drill
 bit through the holes with your hand to clean the holes.

 (c)  Examine the large inner surface of the adapter for surface defects. 1) Replace the adapter if you find defects.
 (3)  S 226-006Examine the spring for distortion. (a) The spring must move freely on a 0.530 inch (13.46 mm) diameter gage rod and through a 0.60 inch (15.24 mm) diameter gage tube. 1) Replace the spring if it is damaged.
 (4)  S 226-007Examine the compression of the spring. (a) The load that is necessary to compress the spring to 0.250 inch (6.35 mm) in length must be 4 to 8 ounces (113.4 to 226.8 g). 1) Replace the spring if it is not in the above limits.
 (5)  S 216-008Visually examine the spring coils: (a) Make sure the coils have an equal distance between them. (b) Make sure the surfaces do not have pits, scratches, nicks, or other defects in them that can cause damage to the spring.
 (6)  S 416-009Do this task: "Combustion Chamber Drain Valve Installation" (Ref 49-16-01/401).
