(c) Add or remove the laminations if it is necessary.
(d) Apply the primer on all the bare surfaces of the shims.
(e) Install the shims.
NOTE:____ The primer can be wet or dry when you install the shims.
(f) Move the flap control lever to the full UP detent to retract
the flaps.
(g) Make sure the distance is not more than the specified limits.
1) If the distance is more than the specified limit, do
steps (a) through (f) again.
S 224-023
(14)
Do a check of the distance between the adjacent flaps (Section B-B, Fig. 402).
(a)
If the distance is not correct, adjust the outboard edge of the flap.
S 224-025
(15)
Do a check of the distance between the aft end or side of the flap and the wing structure (Section C-C and Detail B, Fig. 402).
S 224-026
(16)
Do a check of the distance between the leading edge of the flap and the wing structure (Detail A, Fig. 402).
S 224-027
(17)
Do a check of the flap contour at each linkage (Section C, Fig. 402).
S 824-028
(18)
Adjust the flap contour if it is necessary:
(a)
Move the flap control lever to the 5 unit detent to extend the flaps.
(b)
Disconnect the drive shaft adjacent to the linkage.
(c)
Turn the actuator input spline in the applicable direction.
NOTE: The trailing edge flap will move 0.054 inch if you turn
____ the spline one tooth.
1) Hold the drive shafts on the other linkages when you adjust the actuator.

(e)
Install the coupling with screws.
(f)
Install the lockwire.
(g)
Move the flap control lever to the full UP detent to retract the flaps.
(h)
Examine the flap contour again.
S 224-039
(19)
Do a check of the clearance between the flap No. 11 and 16 and the strut (SB 57-2268):
(a)
Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch on the captain's center panel.
(b)
Turn the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to the EXT position.
(c)
Extend the LE flap until the outboard (curved) edge is approximately 2 to 3 inches from the strut.
(d)
Turn the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to the OFF position.
(e)
Slowly extend the LE flaps, each time 2 inches along the strut, until the flaps are fully extended.
(f)
Do these steps at each 2 inches of flap extension:
1) Measure the clearance between the flap and the strut (Section F-F, Fig. 402).
NOTE: The distance is measured with the inboard engines or
____ dummy weights installed, and the wing is not on the jacks.
2) Make sure the maximum clearance is 1.75 inches. a) If the clearance is less than 1.65 inches, make a mark on the flap with a dot at 1.75 inches.
(g) Cut the flap if the clearance between the flap and the strut is less than the specified limit (SB 57-2268): 1) Remove the seal and the retainer. 2) Connect the dots which are farthest from the edge of the
flap with a line. 3) Use the seal as a guide to make the line into a smooth curve.
