MAINTENANCE MANUAL
Apply the grease to the friction surfaces of the no-back mechanism arc. Apply a thin smooth layer on the inner and outer radii of the arc.
NOTE: We recommend the grease be applied only where the shoe
____ pins contact the inner and outer radii of the arc. Move the speed brake handle and/or actuator to access the entire arc. BMS 3-33 grease is not a replacement for MIL-G23827 grease for use on the no-back mechanism.
Retract the auto speed brake actuator by performing the following: 1) Close the following circuit breaker and remove the
DO-NOT-CLOSE tag:
a) P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
7G6, SPEED BRAKE AUTO CONT
2) Open the following circuit breaker and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag: a) P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
7F3, HYDRAULICS HYDIM 1 3) Move the forward thrust lever number 1 or 3 to half throttle. 4) The actuator should retract, which will move the speed
brake lever to the down and locked position.Move the speed brake lever from the DN and locked position to the full UP position 10 or more times.
NOTE: This should be done with the actuator retracted and
____ extended to make sure the grease is applied to the arc of the no-back mechanism.
Extend the auto speed brake actuator by performing the
following:
1) Place the throttle levers at the idle position.
2) Place the speed brake lever in the DN and locked position.
3) Move the speed brake lever to the armed position.
4) The actuator should retract, which will move the speed
brake lever up.Open the following circuit breaker and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag: 1) P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
a) 7G6, SPEED BRAKE AUTO CONTMove the speed brake lever from the DN and locked position to the full UP position 10 or more times.Remove the grease that is not necessary at the end of the arc. Move the handle or the actuator for access as necessary.Move the speed brake lever to the DN and locked position.Close the following circuit breaker and remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tag: 1) P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel

Do a chatter test of the speed brake lever:
(a)
Move the speed brake lever to the DN and locked position.
(b)
Move the forward thrust lever number 1 or 3 to half throttle.
(c)
Move the speed brake lever to the armed position.
WARNING:_______KEEP HANDS CLEAR OF THE SPEED BRAKE LEVER. THE ACTUATOR WILL MOVE THE LEVER UP WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(d)
Move the forward thrust lever to the idle position.
(e)
Move the speed brake lever manually to the DN and locked position 10 or more times.
(f)
Make sure that the lever binding and/or chattering has stopped. If not, replace the no-back mechanism: "Speed Brake Mechansim Removal" and "Speed Brake Mechanism Installation".
