C. Procedure
S 866-007
(1)
Extend the leading edge flaps (AMM 27-81-00/201).
S 496-008
(2)
Do the extended leading edge flap deactivation and install the safety lock (AMM 27-81-00/201).
S 216-014
(3)
Do an inspection of the drive shaft spline teeth (Fig. 601):
(a)
Examine the splined couplers (at the connections between drive shafts, or between drive shaft and any of these parts: power drive unit, gearbox, rotary actuator or ballscrew transmission (in aluminum krueger flap). 1) Remove the screws which attach the spline coupling sleeve
to the drive shaft on the opposite end of the torque tube. 2) Move the coupling sleeve off the drive shaft spline to disconnect the drive shaft. 3) Measure the linear and the angular backlash on the drive shaft using the wear limits specified below :
-27 teeth, 16/32 external spline -- 0.030 inch, 2 degrees limit
-20 teeth, 16/32 external spline -- 0.020 inch, 2 degrees limit
-28 teeth, 32/64 internal spline -- 0.015 inch, 2 degrees limit
NOTE: Move the drive shaft axially, the full length of
____ the sleeve to find the point of maximum backlash. The limits for the internal spline listed above apply to shafts with internal splines which do not have coupling sleeves. If necessary, remove actuator for access and internal wear measurement.

4) Use the configurations listed above as specified below:
NOTE: There are two drive shafts on the outboard flaps,
____ one on each side of the L1 leading edge flap drive unit which have a standard coupling sleeve on one end and internal spline on the other end.
a) Krueger Flap: 27 teeth, 16/32 spline 20 teeth, 16/32 spline (one shaft per wing) Midspan Flap: 20 teeth, 16/32 spline 28 teeth, 32/64 spline (internal splines)
Outboard Flap: 20 teeth, 16/32 spline 28 teeth, 32/64 spline (internal splines)
5) Repair or replace as necessary, the drive shaft, the power drive unit, gearbox, rotary actuator (or ballscrew transmission in aluminum krueger flap), if the backlash is out of tolerance.
S 216-011
(4)
Do an inspection of the drive shaft for loose rivets:
(a)
Manually turn each drive shaft in the opposite directions.
(b)
Make sure there is no movement between the end fitting and the drive shaft.
(c)
If there is movement between the end fitting and the drive shaft, do one of these steps: 1) Repair the drive shaft (AMM 27-81-05/801). 2) Replace the drive shaft (AMM 27-81-05/401).
D.
Put the Airplane Back to its Usual Condition
S 096-009
(1) Remove the safety lock and do the leading edge flap activation (AMM 27-81-00/201).
