LEADING EDGE FLAP SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST
__________________________________________
1. General_______
A. This procedure contains four tasks. The first task is the operational test of the leading edge (LE) flap system. The second task is the operational test of group A leading edge flaps during reverse thrust operation. The third task is the adjustment of the LE flap system. The fourth task is the system test of the LE flaps.
B. The flap control lever starts the primary operation of the leading edge devices. Usually pneumatic motors operate the LE flaps. If the flaps do not operate in the pneumatic mode, the electric motors will then automatically operate the flaps. Change to the electric mode will cause the EICAS caution display "FLAPS PRIMARY" to come into view. As the result, more time is necessary to operate the flaps because of the slower electrical extension or retraction.
C. Normal extension or retraction of either group of the LE flaps by pneumatic motors (pneumatic drive) requires approximately 10 seconds. Normal extension or retraction of either group of the LE flaps by electric motors (electric drive) requires approximately 75 to 100 seconds.
D. If one or more of the LE flaps do not extend in the electric mode, a "FLAPS DRIVE" caution display will come into view. It is then necessary to do the unusual flap configuration landing procedure.
E. The control of the LE flap system in the pneumatic and electric mode is supplied by three similiar flap control units (FCUs). If all the FCUs do not operate, a "FLAPS CONTROL" caution display will come into view. The operation of the alternate flap system will then be necessary.
F. The alternate system is an open loop system that moves the flaps independently from the FCUs with the electric motors. The alternate system is controlled by a pushbutton ALTN FLAPS ARM switch and a rotary ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch.

2. Leading Edge Flap System Operation Test_______________________________________
A. General
(1)
This procedure make sure that the leading edge (LE) flap system operate correctly.
(2)
Do this test at the same time as the Leading Edge Flap Indicating System - Operational Test (Ref 27-88-00/501). Use the pilots' LE flaps position indicator.
