Move the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch on the pilot's center instrument panel to the EXT position.

Make sure the multiple flap-alternate FLAPS display on the main EICAS comes into view when the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch is in the ALTN position.
NOTE: The LE flap indicator boxes will look crosshatched white
____ when the flaps are in transit. It will change to solid white when the flaps are extended.
(d)
Move the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to the OFF position when the flaps are extended.
(e)
Move the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to the OFF position.

7. Leading Edge Flaps Retraction by Electrical Power

A. General
(1)
There are two control modes available to retract the flaps by electrical power. These two modes are the primary electric mode and the alternate electric mode.
(a)
In the primary electric mode, you move the flap control lever to retract the flaps.
(b)
In the alternate electric mode, you use the ALTN FLAPS switches on the pilots' center instrument panel to retract the flaps.

Two of the three flap control unit inputs are from the relays R7774, ALT FLAP SW RLY NO. 1, and R7775, ALT FLAP SW RLY NO. 2. The circuit breakers TE FLAP ELEC CONT OTBD and TE FLAP ELEC CONT INBD supply power to these relays. If these two circuit breakers are open, the flaps will be in the primary mode. If one of the two circuit breakers are open, the flaps will be in the alternate mode.

CAUTION: DO NOT ELECTRICALLY EXTEND OR RETRACT THE FLAPS MORE THAN ONE
_______ TIME IN 5 MINUTES. DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR CAN OCCUR IF THE MOTOR BECOMES TOO HOT.
(3) Retract the flaps in the primary electric mode:
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE
_______ AND TE FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a) Move the flap control lever to the UP detent to fully retract the flaps.
