Manually turn the drive shaft (32) in the extended direction until the rotary actuators touch the actuator links.

 (b)  
Turn the gearbox input shaft three times in the retract direction.

 (c)  
Apply a thin layer of grease to the drive shaft (32),
 gearbox (3) and splines (40).


 (d)  
Install the drive shaft (32) between the gearbox (3) and the PDU (4).

 (e)  
Remove all unwanted grease from the coupling assembly.

 WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY DO THE STEPS IN THE TASK BELOW TO REMOVE THE
_______ LE FLAP SAFETY LOCKS. THE LE FLAPS CAN MOVE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT DO THE STEPS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

 Do this task:  "Safety Lock Removal and Leading Edge Flap Activation" (Ref 27-81-00/201).

 Adjust the krueger flap linkage:

 (a)  
Put the flap control lever in the full UP detent to retract flaps pneumatically.

 (b)  
Make sure the profile of the midflap trailing edge, measured in line with the linkages adjacent to the gearbox, is not out of tolerance (Detail A, Fig. 203).

 (c)  
Extend the LE flaps.

 (d)  
Adjust the profile if it is necessary:
 1) Disconnect the drive shaft (32) from the PDU.
 2) Turn the drive shaft.

 

 NOTE: The flap aft edge will move approximately 0.015 inch
____ if you move the drive shaft one spline tooth.
 3) Connect the drive shaft (31).
 (e)  
Retract the LE flaps pneumatically.

 (f)  
Do a check of the profile of the midflap trailing edge.

 (g)  
Connect the drive shaft when the profile is correct.

 (h)  
Install the lockwire.

 Put the flap control lever in the 5 unit detent to extend LE flaps pneumatically.

 (26)
 Do a check of the retract stop clearance:

 NOTE: If it is necessary, do this check again until you get the

 correct clearance.

 (a)  Push a small rod through the hole of the retract stop bolt to extend the clearance indicator pins 0.15-0.20 inch at each rotary actuator (Section B-B, Fig. 203).

 (b)  
Put the flap control lever in the full UP detent then to the 5 unit detent to operate the flaps pneumatically.

 (c)  
Measure the height of the clearance indicator pin.

 (d)  
Do a check on the retract stop clearance (Section A-A, Fig. 203).

 (e)  
If the retract stop clearance is not correct, move the washers to adjust the stop bolt.

 (f)  
When you get the correct clearance, push the indicator pin to the head of the stop bolt.

 Install the lockwire on the coupling bolts (32).

 Put the flap control lever in the full UP detent to retract the flaps.

Make sure the PDU operate correctly.

 (1)  Do a check on the operation of the PDU:
 CAUTION: DO NOT ELECTRICALLY EXTEND OR RETRACT THE FLAPS MORE THAN
_______ ONE TIME IN 5 MINUTES. DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR CAN OCCUR IF THE MOTOR BECOMES TOO HOT.
 (a)  
Extend the LE flaps electrically for approximately 15 seconds: 1) Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to put the flap system in

 the alternate control. 2) Put the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch in the EXT position.
