(b) Provide pneumatic power (Ref 36-00-00/201).
WARNING: AILERON, SPOILER, TE FLAP, RUDDER AND ELEVATOR CONTROL
_______ SURFACES, AND THE LANDING GEARS ARE FULLY POWERED. PRIOR TO PROVIDING HYDRAULIC POWER, CHECK TO ENSURE THAT PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF SURFACES. ISOLATE ANY SYSTEM NOT INTENDED FOR OPERATION TO PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(c)
Provide systems No. 1 and 4 hydraulic power (Ref 29-11-00/201).
(d)
Move flap control lever on pilots' control stand to the 1 unit detent. Check that Group A LE flaps (No. 6 through 13, and 14 through 21) fully extend.
(e)
Move flap control lever to the 5 unit detent. Check that Group B LE flaps (No. 1E through 5, and 22 through 26E) fully extend.
(f)
Move flap control lever to the full UP detent. Check that both groups A and B LE flaps retract fully after the TE flaps is retracted.
(3)
Alternate Operation (Electric)
(a)
Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00/201).
(b)
Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch on pilot's center panel to place the flap system in alternate control.
(c)
Two of the three flap control unit inputs are from the relays R7774, ALT FLAP SW RLY NO. 1, and R7775, ALT FLAP SW RLY NO. 2. The circuit breakers TE FLAP ELEC CONT OTBD and TE FLAP ELEC CONT INBD supply power to these relays. If these two circuit breakers are open, the flaps will be in the primary mode. If only one of the circuit breakers are open, the flaps will be in the alternate mode. A FLAPS CONTROL EICAS caution message will be displayed when the flap system is in the alternate mode.
(d)
Check that there is no flap motion.
(e)
Check that one of the following symbols appear above the TE flap position tapes which indicate status of the inboard, midspan, and outboard groups of LE flaps on each wing: The leading edge symbol for LE flaps fully retracted is a white box outline. The leading edge symbol for LE flaps in transit is a white box outline filled with white diagonal cross-hatching envelope. The leading edge symbol for LE flaps full extended is a solid green box. If any of the symbols appears in amber, which indicates a failure with that group of LE flaps, return the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to OFF position immediately and examine LE flap drive system for cause of improper operation.
CAUTION: EXTEND OR RETRACT FLAPS ELECTRICALLY ONCE IN A FIVE MINUTE
_______
PERIOD TO PREVENT OVERHEATING OF MOTOR.
(f) Turn the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to the EXT position.

(g)
Turn the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to OFF when the flaps are at flaps 1 (as indicated on EICAS). Check that group A LE flaps (No. 6 through 21) fully extend.
(h)
Turn the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to the EXT position.
(i)
Turn the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to OFF when flaps are at flaps 5 (as indicated on EICAS). Check that group B LE flaps (No. 1E through 5, and 22 through 26E) fully extend.
CAUTION: PAUSE MOMENTARILY IN OFF POSITION BEFORE TURNING POSITION
_______ OF ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET SWITCH TO PREVENT WELDING CONTROL RELAY CONTACTS.
(j) Turn the ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to the RET position. Check that each LE flap group retracts after the inboard TE flaps is retracted.
WARNING: IF LE AND TE FLAPS ARE NOT IN AGREEMENT AT END OF STROKE
_______ AND PNEUMATIC POWER IS AVAILABLE, FLAPS WILL AUTOMATICALLY MOVE TO CORRECT POSITION WITHIN TEN SECONDS WHEN ALTN FLAPS ARM SWITCH IS PLACED IN NORMAL POSITION. IF PNEUMATIC POWER IS NOT AVAILABLE, THE SERVOMOTOR WILL REMAIN ENERGIZED AT END OF STROKE. IF THIS CONDITION IS TO EXIST FOR EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, THE PRIM LE FLAP CONT A AND B CIRCUIT BREAKERS ON P6 PANEL SHOULD BE OPENED TO PREVENT SUBSEQUENT INADVERTENT OPERATION OF FLAPS AND UNNECESSARY POWER DRAIN AT THE SERVOMOTOR.
