747-400 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
S 862-032
WARNING:_______ MAKE SURE THAT ALL PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE
TRAILING EDGE AND LEADING EDGE FLAPS. THE TRAILING EDGE FLAPS
AND THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS WITH THE POWER DRIVE UNIT CONNECTED
WILL MOVE. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE FLAPS
_______ BEFORE YOU MOVE THE REVERSE THRUST LEVERS. THE ENGINE THRUST REVERSER SLEEVES WILL OPEN IN 1 1/2 SECONDS AND CLOSE IN 4 1/2 SECONDS WHEN YOU OPERATE THE LEVERS. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE TO OPERATE THE PDU PNEUMATICALLY TO THE RIGGING
_______ POSITION. ELECTRICAL OPERATION OF THE PDU DURING THE ADJUSTMENT TEST CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PDU.
(17)
Make sure the drive shafts are not attached to the replacement PDU.
(a)
Move the flap control lever from the full UP detent to the 5 unit detent to operate the PDU and all the other LE flaps.
S 492-033
WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY DO THE STEPS IN THE TASK BELOW TO INSTALL
_______ THE LE FLAP SAFETY LOCKS. THE LE FLAPS CAN MOVE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE SAFETY LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(18)
Do this task: "Extended Leading Edge Flap Deactivation and Safety Lock Installation" (AMM 27-81-00/201).
S 212-175
(19)
Make sure the replacement PDU is in the extend position before you connect the drive shaft.
S 432-034
(20)
If you installed a variable camber flap PDU (5, 6, or 7), connect the variable camber flaps (1) to the PDU (5, 6, or 7):

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE TO ADJUST THE LE FLAP EXTENSION ACCURATELY. THE PDU WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY IF THE LE FLAP ADJUSTMENT IS NOT ACCURATE.
(a) Manually turn the drive shaft (32) until you extend the flaps adjacent to the PDU (Fig. 202).
NOTE: In Fig. 202, View B-B, the rigging dimensions "X" and
____ "Y" are perpendicular distances from the 90 degrees chord point of the wing fixed lower leading edge to the center of pivot point "G" (dimension "X"), or to the nearest edge of the 0.188 inch bolt hole (dimension "Y"). These measurements are taken on the outboard side of the linkage adjacent to the drive unit. Use dimension "X" with the rigging bar or use dimension "Y" without the rigging bar. See table for rigging dimensions.
1) If the rigging bar is available, set the flaps to dimension
X.
2) If the rigging bar is not available, set the flaps to dimension "Y" (View B-B, Fig. 202).
NOTE: You can use a square (and a scale taped on the
____ square, if need it) to take the 90 degrees measurement. Put the square edge (resting on its flat side) on the chord line (wing fixed lower leading edge) and angle the flat surface of the square, as necessary, to line up the square edge (and the scale if you are using it) with the nearest edge of the (0.188 inch) bolt hole. Read the square or scale to check the "Y" rigging dimension.
(b)
Apply grease on the splines (40) and the drive shaft (32).
(c)
Align the drive shaft with the PDU.
(d)
Put the coupling sleeve (41) on the splines.
(e)
Install the two screws (39).
(f)
Install the lockwire.
S 222-035
(21)
Make sure the extend stop distance is 0.04 to 0.12 inch (Section A-A, Fig. 202).
S 412-036
(22)
If you installed a krueger flap PDU (4), connect the PDU (4) to the krueger flaps (2) (Fig. 203):
