FLEXIBLE COUPLING ASSEMBLY - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. The flexible coupling assemblies connect the ducts to the air cycle machine (ACM).
B. It is not easy to connect the ducts to the ACM if you do not assemble the coupling correctly.

2. Remove the Flexible Coupling Assembly (Fig. 401)_____________________________________

B. Procedure

(1)
Remove the clamp.

(2)
Raise the edge of the sleeve adjacent to the component being removed and push the sleeve over until its edge rides on the outer surface of the ring. (See detail A, Fig. 401.)

(3)
Slide sleeve and ring on component not being removed until retainer is revealed.
(4)
Remove the retainer.

B. Procedure
S 434-007
(1) Do these steps if you will install a new coupling or sleeve:
(a)
Put the ring into the sleeve at a 90° angle, then turn the ring to align it with the sleeve.
(b)
Do not put the ring fully into the sleeve.
1) Keep one edge of the sleeve on the outside surface of the ring.
(c)
With the exposed edge of the ring toward the joint, slide the ring and the sleeve onto the duct until the bead is exposed.

Align the duct as shown in Fig. 401.

Install the retainer.

(4)
Move the sleeve and the ring over the retainer.
(5)
Move the sleeve over both the ring and the retainer.
(6)
Install the clamp and tighten the nut to 90 to 95 pound-inches.
