 EFIS COOLING CHECK VALVES - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has three tasks. The first task is the removal of the check valves for the EFIS cooling system. The second task is the installation of the check valves. The third task is how to clean the check valves.
 B.  There are two check valves for the EFIS cooling system in the E/E compartment. The check valves are immediately outboard of the E1 rack and the nose wheel well. The removal and the installation of the two check valves are the same.

 2.  EFIS Cooling Check Valve Removal (Fig. 201)________________________________
 A.  Access
 (1)  Location Zone
 205 Electronic Compartment

 B.  Procedure
 S 862-002
 (1) Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
 (a)  P18 panel
 1) NORM and ALT COOLING FAN CONT
 2) EFIS SYM GEN - L and R
 3) EFIS CONT PANEL - L and R
 4) EHSI - L and R
 5) EADI - L and R

 (2)  
Remove the clamps which attach the flexible coupling to the check valve and the fan.

 (3)  
Move the flexible coupling aft to disconnect it from the check valve.

 (4)  
Remove the coupling which attaches the check valve to the duct.

 C. Install the Check Valve
 S 422-008
 (1)  Attach the check valve to the duct with the coupling:
 (a)  
Make sure the hinge pin on the check valve is in the vertical position.

 (b)  
Make sure you align the check valve with the duct correctly.

 NOTE: The flapper for the check valve can get caught on the
____ duct if you do not align the check valve correctly.
 (c)  Tighten the coupling to 25-30 pound-inches.

 (2)  
Install the flexible coupling to the check valve with the clamps.

 S 432-010

 (3)  
Tighten the clamps to 18-22 pound-inches.

 D. Do a Test of the Check Valve
 S 862-011
 (1) Remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags and close these circuit breakers:
 (a)  P18 panel
 1) NORM and ALT COOLING FAN CONT
 2) EFIS SYM GEN - L and R
 3) EFIS CONT PANEL - L and R
 4) EHSI - L and R
 5) EADI - L and R
