 (14) Refer to the steps that follow for an example of the VBV kicker system adjustment:
 (a)  Initial Condition
 1)  After the free lever was adjusted with the notch of the kicker stop, these measurements are noted: a) With the VBV's in the closed position:
 L1 = 4.02 inch (102.35 mm) b) With the VBV's at the switch point: L2 = 3.61 inch (91.75 mm) 2) Calculate the difference, DL, between L1 and L2
 0.41 inch (10.6 mm) 3) Thus, the feedback rod should be adjusted: a) DL measured is more than 0.34 inch (8.65 mm) (DL
 nominal) b) 0.41 inch (10.6 mm) - 0.34 inch (8.65 mm) = 0.07 inch
 (1.95 mm).
 c)  Shorten the feedback rod - turn the clevis rod clockwise by 4 half turns 0.08 inch (2.0 mm).
 (b)  AFTER 0.08 INCH (2.0 MM) ADJUSTMENT
 1) With the VBV's in the closed position:
 L1 = 3.9 inch (100.5 mm)
 2) With the VBV's at the switch point:
 L2 = 3.6 inch (91.75 mm)
 3) Calculate the difference, DL, between L1 and L2

 DL = 0.35 inch (8.75 mm) 4) DL is in the limits, no additional adjustment is necessary.

 C.  Procedure

 (1)  Open the left fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).

 WARNING: OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROCEDURE TO OPEN THE THRUST
_______ REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSERS, INJURIES TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
 (2)  
Open the left thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (3)  
Lubricate the exposed sides of the uniballs, with three to four drops of water repellant (CP2857).

 (a)  
Let the lubricant soak for 2-3 minutes.

 (b)  
Manually turn the uniballs in all directions.

 


 NOTE: If binding or frozen slightly, use an open-end wrench on
____ the linkage to turn the rod end.
 (c)  
Apply three to four more drops of lubricant if it is necessary.

 (d)  
Move the uniballs in all directions until movement is smooth and free.

 (e)  
Wipe off the excess lubricant.

 (f)  
If the uniballs will not become free, replace the stop mechanism (AMM 75-32-02/401).
