 (d)  Operate the VSV system to the full open position.
 (e) Pull the feedback cable at the MEC end until the travel is ú stopped.
 (f)  Do a check of the gap between the components that follow:

the centerline of the rod end bearing of the cable

the centerline of the feedback attachment hole of the


 bellcrank lever. 1) If there is no gap, make the cable shorter.
 NOTE: To do this, loosen the jamnut and turn the rod end

 (g) Do a check that the threads are sufficiently engaged.
 NOTE: To do this, make sure a 0.032 inch (0.80 mm) diameter
____ lockwire does not go through the witness hole.
 1)  If the threads are not correctly engaged, adjust the cable length. Do the steps to check the cable length at the bellcrank end.
 NOTE: To do this, turn the rod end bearing.

 (h)  
If adjustment of the rod end bearing was necesary, tighten the jamnut against the rod end bearing to 24-27 pound-inches (2.7-3.1 Newton meters).

 (i)  
Attach the rod end bearing to the bellcrank lever arm.


 1)  ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 72-667; (ENGINES WITH ROD-END BEARINGS WITH DROP-IN UNIBALLS); Lubricate the uniballs on the rod end bearing. a) Lubricate the two sides of the uniballs on the rod end
 bearing with LPS-1 penetrating oil.
 1.  Let the uniballs soak in the oil for 2-3 minutes.

 b)  Turn the uniballs back and forth in the two directions fully three times, until there is a smooth operation of the uniballs.
 1.  If more oil is necessary for smooth operation, do
_ the above steps again. c) Wipe off all unwanted oil with a lint free cloth.

d)  Put the rod end bearing in position on the outboard side of the lever arm.
 2)  ENGINES PRE-CFMI-SB 72-667; (ENGINES WITH ROD-END BEARINGS WITH UNIBALLS STAKED IN WITH TEFLON SLEEVES); Put the rod end bearing in position on the outboard side of the lever arm.
 3)  Install the washer and the bolt (put the bolt head away
 from the compressor case).
 4) Install the slotted nut.
 5) Tighten the nut to 20-40 pound-inches

 (2.3-4.5 Newton meters) while you align the nut slot with the cotter pin hole.
 NOTE: Replace the nut if you cannot get the minimum torque
____ value, or if you get more than the maximum torque value.
 6) Install a cotter pin.
 7) Bend the ends of the pin around the nut flats.

 (4)  Do a check for the cable length at the MEC end (AMM 75-31-00/201).
 (a)  
Make sure the VSV system is in the full open position.

 (b)  
Use a lockwire to attach a pull scale to the rod end bearing at the MEC end.

 (c)  
Apply a tension load of 15-17 pounds (67-76 N) in a line with the cable centerline axis.

 (d)  
Keep the load while you push the MEC feedback arm away from the cable attachment bracket.

 (e)  
Do a check for the clearance between the items that follow:

 -
the centerline of the rod end bearing of the cable

 -
the centerline of the cable attachment hole of the MEC

 


 feedback arm. 1) If there is no clearance, make the cable shorter.
 NOTE: To do this, loosen the jamnut and turn the rod end

 bearing.

 (f)  
Operate the VSV system to the full closed position.

 (g)  
Attach a pull scale to the rod end bearing and apply a tension load of 15-17 pounds (67-76 N).


 NOTE: Do this in a line with the cable centerline axis.

 (h)  Keep the load while you push the MEC feedback arm to the cable attachment bracket.
