(3) Examine the air signal tube for:
(a)
Cracks, chafing or flat sections.
1) If there are cracks, chafing or flat sections in the tube, replace the tube.
(b)
Damage or change to the shape of the tube or kinks.
1) If there is damage or change to the shape of the tube or kinks in the tube, replace the tube.
(c)
Signs of air leakage at the elbow fitting:
1) If there are signs of air leakage at the elbow fitting, replace the O-ring (AMM 75-34-01/401).
(d)
Loose tube nut or fittings.
1) Tighten the tube nut to 270-300 pound-inches (30.7-34.1 Newton meters), or tighten and replace the fittings if it is necessary.

5TH-STAGE START BLEED VALVE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first task is to remove the 5th-stage Start Bleed Valve. The second task is to install the 5th-stage Start Bleed Valve.
B. The 5th-stage start bleed valve is found on the left side of the high pressure compressor (HPC) case at the 11 o'clock position between the core flanges N and P.

Open the left thrust reverser half (AMM 78-31-00/201).

Disconnect the air signal tube from the elbow on the bleed valve.

Loosen the jamnut and remove the elbow from the valve signal port.

Remove and discard the O-ring.

Loosen and remove the two V-band clamps at the inlet and outlet ports of the bleed valve.

Remove the bleed valve and discard the metal gaskets from air inlet and outlet ports.
