 (c)  
Tighten the locking bolt for the VSV trimmer bracket to 32-35 pound-inches (3.6-4.0 Newton meters).

 (d)  
Make a record of both the temperature in the shade of the nose gear wheel well and the pressure at the location.

 (e)  
On the pilot's P5 overhead panel, make sure both the ENG ANTI-ICE and BLEED switches are set to the OFF position.

 (f)  
Use the Power Plant Operation (Normal) procedure to start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).


 (g) At the maximum N2 motor speed, and before you apply the fuel and ignition, do the steps that follow: 1) Make sure the VSV's are in the closed position. a) If, at maximum N2 motor speed, the VSV's are not at the closed position stop, adjust the feedback adjustment screw. Turn the screw clockwise (CLOSED) until the VSV is closed (35.4-37.2 degrees).
 2) Make sure the VSV indicator reads 35.4-37.2 degrees.
 (h)  
Let the engine become stable at ground idle for 3 minutes.

 (i)  
Make sure the VSV's are within limits on the computer screen.

 (j)  
Make a slow (2-3 minutes) acceleration to Maximum Power Assurance (MPA) adjustment (AMM 71-00-00/501, Test No. 5), and make sure VSV tracking is within limits on the computer screen.


 NOTE: When continuous tracking is used to plot the VSV
____ schedule, it is possible for you to see the VSV's temporarily track in the open direction during the transition of the VBV's between the corrected core speed of approximately 11,815 and 12,100 rpm (CFMI SB 72-580). If the VSV's are tracking in the tolerance bands in all other locations, it is permitted to have the VSV's temporarily track beyond the open limit in this speed range.

(k)  
Stabilization at MPA is not required. Decrease the engine speed to flight idle and let the engine become stable for 3 minutes. Make sure the VSV tracking is within limits on the computer screen. If VSV tracking is not within limits, repeat steps (6)(a) thru (6)(l).

 (l)  
Do an Acceleration Time Check (AMM 71-00-00/501, Test No. 8).

 (m)  
Decrease the engine speed to ground idle and let the engine become stable for 5 minutes.

 (n)  
Use the Power Plant Operation (Normal) procedure to do the engine shut-down (AMM 71-00-00/201).

 (7)  Align the variable rig plate on the MEC (Fig. 506).
 (a)  Operate the VSV system to the open position (AMM 75-31-00/201).
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THERE IS CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE PARTS THAT

THE FEEDBACK CABLE ROD FOR THE VSV

THE ROD END HEAD END HOSES FOR THE VSV

THE ATTACHED HARDWARE.
 NO CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE PARTS CAN CAUSE THE VSV TO
 OPERATE OFF SCHEDULE.

 

 (b)  
Do a check for clearance between the parts that follow: 1) The feedback cable rod for the VSV 2) The rod end head end hoses for the VSV 3) The attached hardware.

 (c)  
If it is necessary, adjust the position of the hoses to get clearance.

 (d)  
Loosen the two screws that attach the adjustable rig plate.

 (e)  
Attach a pull scale to the connection for the MEC feedback cable.

 (f)  
Apply a tension of 15-17 pounds (67-76 Newtons) to the feedback cable.
