 (2)  Install the 9th-stage duct as follows:
 (a)  
If the seal has dents, is damaged, or the silver layer is damaged, replace the seal.

 (b)  
Clean the mating surfaces with the scotch brite.

 (c)  
Install the seals in the flange recess.

 (d)  
Attach the duct flanges to the HPC bleed ports on the combustion case with the bolts and washers (4 locations) (countersunk side of washer adjacent to bolt head).

 (e)  
Tighten the bolts to 55-70 pound-inches (6-8 Newton meters).

 (f)  
Safety the bolts with a lockwire.

 CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WITH THE SEALS DURING THE INSTALLATION. THE SEALS ARE EASILY DAMAGED.

 (g)  
Clean the coupling seals and flange sealing surfaces with the scotch brite.

 (h)  
Make sure the flange sealing surfaces and seals are free from scratches, cuts, pits, creases and unwanted material.

 (i)  
Install the seals into the male flanges of the duct.

 (j)  
Align the flanges with a maximum clearance of 0.03 inch


 (0.76 mm) at all points.
 NOTE: Do not use force to align the flanges.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE COUPLING AT THE 3 O'CLOCK POSITION IS
_______ POINTED IN THE DIRECTION SHOWN IN FIG. 401 (SHEET 1). IF THE COUPLING IS NOT POINTED IN THIS DIRECTION, IT CAN HIT THE FAN DUCT COWL AND THRUST REVERSER HALF AND BE DAMAGED.
 (k)  
Install the coupling around flanges at the 3 o'clock position.

 (l)  
Point the coupling in the direction shown in Fig. 401
 (Sheet 1).


 (m)  
Tighten the coupling to 85-100 pound-inches
 (9.6-11.3 Newton meters).


 (n)  
Install the coupling around the flanges at the 8 o'clock position.

 (o)  
Tighten the coupling to 70-85 pound-inches
 (7.9-9.6 Newton meters).

 (3)  Connect the CBP air tube to the sensor nipple.
 (a)  
Tighten the coupling nut to 135-150 pound-inches
 (15-17 Newton meters).


 (b)  
Safety the coupling nut to the sensor nipple with a lockwire.

 WARNING: OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN AMM 78-31-00/201 TO CLOSE THE THRUST
_______ REVERSER. IF YOU FAIL TO DO SO, INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
 (4)  Close the thrust reverser halves (AMM 78-31-00/201).

5TH-STAGE START BLEED SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 1.  General (Fig. 1)

 A.  ENGINES WITH THE START BLEED VALVE DEFLECTOR; The 5th-stage start bleed system, which consists of a pneumatically actuated bleed valve, air diffuser, deflector baffle and connecting tubing to the start valve, uses starter air pressure from the start valve to signal the bleed valve to open and unload four percent of the compressor 5th-stage pressure. This reduced pressure in the high pressure compressor (HPC) section during start will increase engine stall margin at low starting speeds.
