(1) Open the left fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).

WARNING: OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROCEDURE TO OPEN THE THRUST
_______ REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSERS, INJURIES TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.

Open the left thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).

Disconnect the VSV head and rod end coupling nuts (tube to hose) at the main engine control (MEC).

Connect the hydraulic cart pump supply and return hoses to the VSV head and rod end tubes.
NOTE: You can use a dry air, nitrogen or argon source if a

hydraulic cart pump is not available.

CAUTION:_______DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN 300 PSI (2100 KPA) TO THE SYSTEM. TOO MUCH PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SYSTEM.
(5) Operate the VSV system to the closed position (VSV actuator rod extended).
(a) Apply and hold a pressure of 200-300 psi (1400-2100 kPa) with fuel or oil to the head end tube.
NOTE: When the VSV system closes, movement must be smooth
____ without binding or jumping. The VSV system must start to close at 100 psi (700 kPa) and must continue until it gets to the stop position. The indication that the system is at the stop position is a rapid increase in gage pressure. If the stator vanes do not move, examine the VSV actuators for signs of leakage.

(a) Apply and hold a pressure of 200-300 psi (1400-2100 kPa) with fuel or oil to the rod end tube.
