 NOTE: The VSV actuator rod on CFM56-3C-1 engines is not adjustable.
____ Thus, the VSV actuator to the bellcrank assembly rigging is not necessary.
 (a)  
Operate the VSV system to the full open position (actuator rods retracted) with an external pressure source (AMM 75-31-00/201).

 (b)  
Try to install the rigging pins in the rigging pin holes in the left and right VSV bellcrank assemblies.

 (c)  
If the rig pin holes do not align to permit an easy rigging pin installation, adjust the actuator rod as follows: 1) Loosen the jamnut and the key lock from the actuator rod.


 CAUTION: USE THE ACTUATOR ROD HEX ONLY TO TURN THE ROD.
_______ DAMAGE TO THE ROD SURFACE CAN CAUSE A ROD SEAL LEAKAGE DURING THE OPERATION.
 2)  Turn the actuator rods on or off the clevis threads to align the holes and install the rig pins.
 CAUTION: YOU MUST ALIGN THE KEY LOCK AND HEX NOTCH ON THE
_______ ACTUATOR ROD BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN THE JAMNUT. IF YOU DO NOT ALIGN THE KEY LOCK AND HEX NOTCH, DAMAGE TO THE KEY LOCK CAN OCCUR.
 3) Turn the actuator rods to engage the key locks into the nearest hex notch of the actuator rod. 4) Tighten the jamnuts while you hold the actuator rod hex in its position. 5) Install a lockwire from the key lock to the jamnut.
 (d)  Do not remove the rig pins from the bellcrank assemblies.

(e)  Release the pressure from the external pressure source
 (AMM 75-31-00/201).

 (4)  Make sure the VSV bellcrank assemblies to the actuation rings are adjusted correctly as follows:
 (a)  
Make sure the rigging pins are installed in each VSV bellcrank assembly.

 (b)  
On the left and right VSV bellcrank/actuator assemblies, remove the D-head bolts and nuts that attach the tie rods to the connecting link clevises.


 NOTE: Do not adjust the tie rods.

 (c)  
Put a rigging plate from a protractor kit at each of the
 quadrant locations on the forward stator case of the high
 pressure compressor (HPC).

 which you can install a rigging plate.

 (d)  
Install the posts on the vane stems that engage the square hole in the rigging plates with a screwdriver.

 (e)  
Install the pins through the rigging plates and actuation
 rings.


 (f)  
Make sure the pins extend through the inner diameter (ID) of
 the actuation rings.


 (g)  
Lubricate the D-head bolt threads with grease.

 (h)  
Try to connect the tie rod ends to the connecting link clevises with the D-head bolts and nuts (the bolthead points aft for the IGV and forward for stages 1, 2 and 3). 1) Tighten the nuts to 105-115 pound-inches

 (11.9-13.0 Newton meters).

 (i)  
If you cannot connect the tie-rod(s), adjust the tie rod as
 follows:
 1) Loosen the jamnuts and adjust the tie-rod if it is

 

 necessary to permit a connection.
 2) Tighten the jamnuts to 24-27 pound-inches
 (2.7-3.1 Newton meters).
 3) Safety the jamnut with a lockwire.
