C.  ENGINES WITHOUT THE START BLEED VALVE DEFLECTOR; An air diffuser is attached to the exit port of the bleed valve to reduce the velocity of the exiting bleed air.
 3.  Operation

 A.  During engine start air pressure is ducted to the start valve and the starter is engaged (start valve open). After start valve opening air pressure is applied to a pressure sensing port just downstream of the valve which directs air to the signal port on the start bleed valve, causing it to open. This allows engine core airflow to exit the HPC for improved stability.
 B.  ENGINES WITH THE START BLEED VALVE DEFLECTOR; Bleed air passes through the valve, then the diffuser, and is deflected against a baffle where it mixes with engine compartment air. The air discharges overboard through the gap between the aft end of the thrust reverser and the exhaust sleeve.
 C.  ENGINES WITHOUT THE START BLEED VALVE DEFLECTOR; Bleed air passes through the valve and the diffuser where it mixes with engine compartment air. The air discharges overboard through the gap between the aft end of the thrust reverser and the exhaust sleeve.
 D.  When the starter is disengaged, the start valve closes cutting off the air signal to the bleed valve. Spring pressure aided by a 5th-stage pressure boost traveling through a small orifice to the spring side of the piston sleeve closes the bleed valve and holds it shut during normal engine operation.

 (1)  Open the left thrust reverser half (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PERSONS ON THE GROUND CAN SPEAK TO THE
_______ PERSONS IN THE FLIGHT COMPARTMENT CAN TALK TO EACH OTHER. THE PERSONS ON THE GROUND WILL BE IN THE FAN AIRFLOW DURING THE ENGINE DRY MOTOR PROCEDURE. IF THE PERSONS ON THE GROUND CANNOT SPEAK TO THE PERSONS IN THE FLIGHT COMPARTMENT, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
 MAKE SURE THAT THE COWL/REVERSER ACTUATOR IS IN THE LOCKED POSITION. IF THE COWL/REVERSER IS NOT IN THE LOCKED POSITION, AN ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 USE AMM 71-00-00/201 TO OPERATE THE POWER PLANT. IF YOU DO NOT USE THIS PROCEDURE, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT OR INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (2)  Use the Power Plant Dry-Motor procedure to motor the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).
