 c) Turn the actuator rods to engage the key locks into the nearest hex notch of the actuator rod. d) Tighten the jamnuts while you hold the actuator rod hex in its position. e) Install a lockwire from the key lock to the jamnut.

 NOTE: This sets the position indicator to read 0.5 degrees

(g)  
Remove the rig pin.

 (h)  
Operate the stator system to the closed position (actuator rod extended) (AMM 75-31-00/201).

 (i)  
Make sure the VSV indicator reads 35.4-37.2 degrees.

 (j)  
If the VSV's are not in these limits, go back to the rig check step for the VSV and continue.

 (k)  
Make a record of the VSV position.

 (l)  
If the VSV's stay out of these limits on the closed stop, examine the installation of the position transmitter.

 (m)  
AIRPLANES WITH CFM56-3B-1 ENGINES;
 AIRPLANES WITH CFM56-3B-1 ENGINES;
 Operate the VSV's to the fully open position.


 (n)  
AIRPLANES WITH CFM56-3C-1 ENGINES; Operate the VSV's to the rig position (rig pin holes aligned).

 (o)  
Make sure the VSV indicator reads 0.5 degrees.

 (p)  
Move the VSV's to the closed position and remove the VSV actuation equipment (AMM 75-31-00/201).


 CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WITH THE INSULATED CABLE WHEN YOU CLOSE THE FAN
_______ DUCT COWL AND THRUST REVERSER. IF YOU CLOSE THE FAN DUCT COWL AND THRUST REVERSER ON THE CABLE, DAMAGE TO THE CABLE WILL OCCUR.
 (q)  With the cable through the No. 3 latch, close the thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (5)  Do a Dynamic Rigging Check of the VSV.
 (a)  
Make a record of the temperature (recorded by equipment) and the pressure at the location.

 (b)  
On the pilot's P5 overhead panel, make sure both the ENG ANTI-ICE and BLEED switches are set to the OFF position.

 (c)  
Use the Power Plant Operation (Normal) procedure to start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).

 (d)  
At the maximum N2 motor speed, and before you supply the fuel and ignition, do the steps that follow: 1) Make sure the VSV's are in the closed position.

Let the engine become stable at ground idle for 3 minutes.

 (f)  
Make note of the VSV position on the computer screen.

 (g)  
Follow the instructions in the RMS Users Manual to use the remote trimmer to adjust the VSV's, as necessary.

 CAUTION:_______DO NOT ADJUST THE VSV'S AT HIGH POWER. DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.

 (h)  
Make a slow (2-3 minutes) acceleration to Maximum Power Assurance (MPA) adjustment, (AMM 71-00-00/501, Test No. 5) and make sure VSV tracking is within limits on the computer screen.
