Release the pressure.

 (j)  
Disconnect the hydraulic cart supply and the return hoses from the VBV open and closed end tubes.

 (k)  
Remove the caps from the MEC fittings.

 (l)  
Connect the coupling nut on the VBV open end to the MEC OPEN
 fitting.


 (m)  
Tighten it to 270-300 pound-inches (30.5-33.9 N.m).

 (n)  
Connect the coupling nut of the VBV closed end to the MEC CLOSE fitting.

 (o)  
Tighten it to 270-300 pound-inches (30.5-33.9 N.m).

 (12) Install the outer nut of the VBV OPEN and CLOSED tubes.
 (a)  Tighten the nuts with your hand and install lockwire.

 CAUTION: DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MATING SURFACES OF THE STRUT
_______ FAIRING. DO NOT REMOVE THE SEALS BETWEEN THE MATING SURFACES OF THE STRUT FAIRING.
 (13) Install and seal the 9 o'clock strut fairing as follows:
 NOTE: BMS5-63 primer and sealant is necessary to give
____ sufficient fire protection for the extension ring and fairing. Sealant 93-006-1 is necessary to fill the crack between the fairing and the support structure for aerodynamic smoothness.
 (a)  Remove the used sealant from the faring and the mating surfaces on the extension ring and fan frame strut.
 WARNING: DO NOT GET METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK) IN YOUR MOUTH, OR
_______ EYES, OR ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM THE MEK. PUT ON A RESPIRATOR, PROTECTIVE SPLASH GOGGLES, AND GLOVES WHEN YOU USE THE MEK. KEEP THE MEK AWAY FROM SPARKS, FLAME AND HEAT. MEK IS A POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE SOLVENT WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (b)  
Use solvent to clean the mating surfaces of the extension ring and the strut fairing. Rub the surfaces dry.

 (c)  
Apply the parting agent to the mating surfaces of the extension ring. 1) Let the parting agent cure until it is dry to the touch.


 ú (d) Apply the BMS5-63, Type 1 or 2, Class B-4 primer and sealant, ú as follows:
 1)  Apply the BMS5-63 primer as a continuous coat to the mating surfaces of the extension ring. a) Let the primer cure for a minimum of 30 minutes.
 NOTE: The primer will form a chalky surface when dry.

2)  Apply the BMS5-63 sealant to the faying surface of the
 strut fairing.
 (e)  Install the strut fairing.  Use 0.025 inch x 0.375 inch (0.64
 mm x 9.53 mm) spacers or washers at each fastener location to
 keep the correct sealant thickness.  Do not fully install the
 fasteners.
 ú  (f)  Let the BMS5-63, Type 1 sealant cure at room temperature for 48
 ú  hours.
 ú
 ú  NOTE:____ If you use the Type 2 sealant, let the sealant cure at
 ú  room temperature for four hours.
 ú
 ú  1)  If a shorter cure time is necessary for the Type 1 sealant,
 ú  cure the sealant at 120° |5° degrees Farenheit (50°C) for
 ú  four hours.
 (g)  After the sealant has cured, do a visual check to make sure the
 sealant fully covers the faying surfaces.
 (h)  Remove the spacers and fully torque the strut fairing
 fasteners.
