Remove the flame arrestor from the drain line.


 S 167-021
 (2)  Do these steps to clean the flame arrestor:
 (a)  
Prepare a weak solution of the water and the detergent in the bucket.

 (b)  
Put the flame arrestor fully into the solution for a minimum of five minutes.

 (c)  
Remove the flame arrestor from the solution.

 (d)  
With the air gun, blow away the particles which cause a blockage in the air holes in the flame arrestor.

 CAUTION: DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLAME ARRESTOR WHILE YOU REPLACE IT.
_______ THE FIT IS TIGHT AND THE FLAME ARRESTOR IS EASILY DAMAGED.
 (3)  
Replace the flame arrestor in the shroud drain line.

 S 437-001

 (4)  
Connect and tighten with your hand the coupler which contains the flame arrestor (AMM 28-22-15/401).

 AIR VENT SCOOP FLAME ARRESTER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks:
 (1)  
The removal of the flame arrester for the air vent scoop

 (2)  
The installation of the flame arrester for the air vent scoop.


 B.  The flame arrester unit is made of stainless steel, and it is made in a cellular-core pattern. It is installed on the top flange of the air stack on the access panel (No. 14) for the air vent scoop (Fig. 401). If the flame arrester cells are blocked with particles, you can usually clean the flame arrester while it is attached to the stack. To do this, you put the access panel assembly fully into a weak soap solution. Then you use an air gun to open the blocked cells.
 C.  If it is necessary to remove the flame arrester, you must seal the mounting flange again when you install the flame arrester.

 (1)  
Make sure the airplane is correctly grounded to an approved and identified ground.

 (2)  
Unless the applicable surge tank is prepared for entry, do these safety checks:

 (a)  
Remove the electrical power from the airplane (AMM 24-22-00/201). 1) Do not connect the power again until the fuel tank is

 closed and safe.

 (b)  
Disconnect the battery and attach a sign that shows OPEN FUEL TANKS - DO NOT CONNECT.
