 CENTER TANK FUEL SCAVENGE SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks. The two tasks are tests for the correct operation of the fuel scavenge system in the center tank. The first test is applicable to the airplanes with the fuel flow indicator on the front spar. The second test is applicable to the airplanes without the fuel flow indicator on the front spar.
 B.  Some fuel moves from the center tank to the No. 1 tank during this test.

 (1)  Connect the electrical power, if it is not connected (AMM 24-22-00/201).

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE
_______ AND TE FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU EXTEND OR RETRACT THE FLAPS. THE FLAPS CAN MOVE QUICKLY WITH THE HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (2)  Extend the leading edge flaps (AMM 27-81-00/201).

 WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY DO THE STEPS IN THE TASK BELOW TO INSTALL
_______ THE LE FLAP SAFETY LOCKS. THE LE FLAPS CAN MOVE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE SAFETY LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (3) Install the locks on the leading edge flaps (AMM 27-81-00/201).

 (4)  Close these circuit breakers:
 (a)  P6-3 Panel - FUEL SYSTEMS
 1) QTY
 2) FUEL CONT. NO.1 AFT - NO.2 FWD - CTR L
 3) FUEL CONT. NO.1 FWD - NO.2 AFT CTR R
 4) BOOST PUMP TANK 1 FWD
 5) BOOST PUMP CTR TANK LEFT
 6) BOOST PUMP CTR TANK RIGHT

 (5)  Make sure that the left main and the center tanks contain the fuel quantities that follow:
 (a)  
Left Main Tank: 2,000 - 8,000 LBS (908 - 3,632 KGS).

 (b)  
Center Tank: 800 - 1,200 LBS (363 - 545 KGS).

 (c)  
If it is necessary, move the fuel from one tank to a different tank (AMM 28-23-00/201).

 (6)  
Make sure the engine start levers are set to CUTOFF.

 (7)  
Make sure the switches for the center tank right and the center tank left boost pumps on the P5-2 panel are OFF.

Make sure the switches for the left and the right boost pumps of the center tank have been OFF for a minimum of 25 minutes.


 NOTE: The 25 minute time limit is to make sure the fuel
____
 scavenge shutoff valve is closed.

 D. Test Procedure
 S 015-008
 (1)  
Get access to the front spar of tank No. 1, between the engine and the fuselage.

 S 035-009

 (2)  
Remove the cap from the flow indicator for the fuel scavenge system (Fig. 501).

 (3)  
On the P5 panel, set the switch for the FWD boost pump for the No. 1 tank to ON.

 (4)  
Do a check for fuel flow.


 (a)  Look at the flow indicator.
