SURGE TANK FLAME ARRESTER PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE -

1. General
_______
A. This procedure has two tasks:
(1)
Close the relief valve manually.
(2)
The pressure check of the relief valve.
B. If you open the relief valve, air will not go through the air vent scoop in the fuel vent system. The air usually goes out of the fuel vent system through the air vent scoop. Too much internal pressure or too much external pressure opens the valve. If the valve is open, you must close it manually.
C. You can do a check of the pressure necessary to open the valve with the valve installed in the airplane. You can do this check with special equipment attached to the external airplane skin.

2. Close the Relief Valve Manually

B. Procedure

(1) Do a check to see if the relief valve is open.
(a) Find the access panel adjacent to the air vent scoop at the end of the wing (Fig. 601).
NOTE: This panel is not circular.

(b)
Find the poppet at the center of the access panel.
(c)
If the valve is open, the poppet is above the bottom surface of the wing.
NOTE: If the valve is open, the manual reset knob and its
____ stem are below the poppet.

(2) Set the poppet to the closed position manually (Fig. 601).
(a)
Hold the manual reset knob and pull it down until the poppet is aligned with the skin.
(b)
Hold the manual reset knob down for 5 seconds.
